Indicator Lights Stop Working Intermittently!

I have an 03 Avensis D4-D T3X diesel hatchback. The indicator lights (together with the hazard light) occasionally stop working and then they start working again.

This problem has happened five or six times in the last two years. After the first time, I took the car to the Toyota dealership but they could not re-produce the problem, and said everything is ok.

The problem tends to occur when the sun is shining and the temperature is relatively high. But it has happened on a rainy day as well. On the last occasion, when I turned the engine on, the indicators worked, but after a few miles they stopped working. When the problem occurs, they don’t get fixed until I switched off the engine and leave the car for a couple of hours, but on one occasion even this did not solve the problem.

Any advice is most appreciated.
