Im looking for a new set of wheels for my aygo, i currnetly have 15"s with a 195 45 tyre. With this the arch looks a bit empty, I guess that it would take a 195 50 but cant say for sure. Does anybody please have any guidance on this, whether they have don it succesfully or not? please help, having some real trouble deciding.

Lower the car a little.. puting a larger profile tyre will raise the height of the full car and won't fill the arch as you might expect it to, dropping the arches down onto the tyres will, search the forum for lowering springs to find your best options.

Higher sidewall will raise the car and fill the wheel arch but you also throw the circmference out which means that it will be a few percent higher so your speedo will be out and your gearing will be longer, so cfc1 is correct on the best course to take and that is lowering springs. Apex are a popular choice, I fitted Eibach ones which are more expensive; which reminds me, it is a lot more money, the car does handle better as well as looking better though.

Now you mention it, at some point I wish to try Toyo 888 tyres on the front and they are 195/50 so I will have to do the same compromise as mentioned above.

There is a good tyre calculator here http://www.alloywheels.com/tyrecalc.asp

Good luck!
