Before I purchased my Corolla I test drove one of these and found it largely dissapointing... I find the engine to be sluggish and not as exciting as the older Yaris TS... But I guess as far as a comfortable ride goes its not too bad.

Great cars. They have all the toys and extras that other users add on to theirs. If you don’t mind £175 a year road tax and 30/35mpg then take a test drive.

They do like the engine oil though, so check that dip stick

So what makes this better than the original T-Sport?

The T Sport is an excellent car

The 1.8SR has evolved like all cars do and in a couple of years I’m sure the next generation of Yaris will be better than the current one.

Maybe nobody bought it. I only ever saw 2 on the road since they was released. I thought it was a really good looking car - the bumpers, skirts and alloys gave the newer 1.8 SR a more agressive stance and in looks it was as a worthy succesor to the t-sport. Just a shame it didn't come with more power or the fun factor of the old t-sport.

For the money, and in the segment of warm hatch, there are more exciting alternatives available.

ive seen a few on the road and i like them and im a strong believer that the 1.8 should of produced more power and should of sat a little lower to make it feel more sportier.

Hi,

I haven't been on the forum for a long time, but browsed and saw this.

I own a Yaris SR 1.8, i've had it for 2 years now and honestly is the best Yaris I have had! (I've had 2)

I manage to get 42mpg. It's a shame they have discountinued the car.

But if you are looking for a new car I do recommend Toyotas (my family all own Toyotas)

Various SR 1.8 owners in the past have commented on how much oil these engines consume and was wondering if you had noticed you had similar issues. Also what kind of mileage do you normally do (high speed motorway etc)

Its a nippy car for London (where I live), but I often take trips to Bournemouth, approx 150 miles (as my best friend lives there). I've maxed out just 120 before, did not do this on purpose...just put your foot down and forgot to check my speed (as in my old Yaris a 1.0 max would be about 90 odd and 100 downhill). I get 42mpg on a trip like that, but even in London I get a good 38-40 mpg.

I've never had any problems with low engine oil, it gets checked at the begining of every long journey and it gets changed/toped up at service (My SR is 2 years old now).

Yeah, I've never had to top mine up, it hardly uses any oil. Infact I can't remember the last time I checked it and it needed to be topped up.

to answer the original question... love it. The only things wrong with it, is it should be a touch lower, and it should have at least a small turbo.. to keep it in line with the Fiesta ST and Corsa VXR.

Typical Toyota fashion, that ain't gonna happen. :(

I'm on my second SR 1.8, as my first one got crashed into, on two seperate occasions.

If I didn't like it so much, I'd have got something else.

Thing is though.... when you have even VW grabbing this marketshare...

I'm not sure I'll be too fussed about getting another Toyota when it's time to upgrade.

I've never had any problems at all with them, loved every Toyota I've owned.... but I just want something with some muscle and something thats new from them. :\

I am waiting for a 57plate 1.8 SR to be delivered to my local dealer and pick it up on 1st Oct from them (full months road tax then). And I got a deal I coudnt refuse!

Out of interest, how many miles out of a full tank are you getting on your normal runs, and how much to fill it?

I am coming from a performance diesel, but wanted something a bit cheaper to run (my current servicing costs £400 and thats 2 front tyres every year for another £300), my wife has a yaris 1.4 diesel and loves it, so the 1.8 for me made sense, good reliabilty, fun to throw around as most of my driving is on b roads and my current beast is a bit lardy for that.

I currently get 450 miles from my diesel, but that costs me £60 to fill it, town driving I only get 30mpg max and on a run about 45-50mpg....it aint the best diesel mine lol

Hi Craig,

Brilliant choice in car! What colour? I think the only choice for the SR when I got mine in 2007 was Alsace Granite, Midnight Black or Red (can't rememebr the fancy name for the red).

At todays unleaded price 105.9p per litre cost me £35-40 to fill to the top (todays fill was £37 on an empty tank)

On a full tank I can drive to Bournemouth and back approx twice from London approx 200 miles+ each return trip (I do this trip quite often, sometimes have to fill up on the fourth leg, if I've been out shopping in bournemouth/poole/southampton).

Best mpg i've got is about 45mpg, but this involves driving through a few london roads before I hit the motorway.

I've never had a full week of London driving so not sure of the mpg in the city, prob no lower the 38mpg. My bro has taken it out before, and he does alot of over revving and sudden braking, but when he got back the average was still above 38mpg.

As BabyG said, it costs around £35-40 to fill up to the top from when the reminder starts flashing. Usually costs me a little more as I put in vpower.

I can easily get to London (heathrow) and back from Somerset, on half a tank, so a quick google maps calculation... 270 miles round trip. Admittedly cruising at around 75/80mph.

I have been to Wisbech and back .... google maps... 384 Miles. on a full tank and about a tenners worth (I was booting it though  ) If I kept a steady pace, I reckon I could have done it on a tank.
