Humming Yaris

Hi All

My wife,s 2000 Yaris has been making a humming noise from the rear for two year,s now, I seam to be the only one tuned into this noise. It has had new rear tyre,s, but to be fair it started this problem on the original Brigdstones. It has been through two M.O.T.'s and passed ok, i did ask if it was a rear wheel bearings, but they have been checked and they are ok. The car has 42000 miles on the clock so it is below milage for the year. Anybody have any ideas, or is it just the plastics and rubber trim shrinking due to age and i am hearing more road noise.

Hi oldy, could just be the road noise that's all, mine is similar on certain road surfaces.

I just turn up the cd!

As i have found with mine it is possibly a combination of tyres level of sound proofing and the interior space giving that VAN feel, Toyota made it more spacious inside but at the expense of road noise.

People at work have commented on mine, as if i had not noticed

But having said that it returns good mpg and starts first time, you just know it is going to and thats all that matters to me. Much better than the french or italian sheds on offer :D

Sedj that is an unfair comment (unless you have the T-Sport). You problems are sadly self inflicted in your tread (Mix of both high tyre pressure, cheap hard tyres and your last car being a Rover) http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.p...howtopic=101545

Double check both the rear bearings. They're highly likely candidates, especially if the humming noise gets louder as the speed increases.

ok will get them checked out again. i must admit that the noise is only there above 30, and increases slightly as the speed increases.

I'm shocked! It would cost me 300 euro for the part alone here. Where did you get it? I assume it's the non abs hub?

Yes it is a non abs hub, Euro car Parts have them for £1404.00, my local independant garage got it cheaper. Not sure if it is a Toyta part but it has cured the problem.

Remember a lot of car manufactures get there parts from companies who specialise in manufacturing of all different parts of your vehicle.

A friend of mine works for a local company who make the sub frames for the Mini one.
