What Is It With Disabling The Reversing Beep?

Many guys here and our 'cousins' across the pond on PriusChat seem obsessed with getting the dealer to disable the reversing beeps. I've never quite got why it's an issue as I don't spend too much time in reverse and so I can live with it. So, without being funny, why do you want just a single beep upon engaging reverse?

I haven't got my car yet.....nearly there. :P

But I have got parking sensors fitted, so for me I don't want two competing sets of bleeps going off when I'm reversing.

On the new T Spirit it would be OK to just have one beep, as when reverse is selected the screen changes to the camera display which is a good reminder as to what you have done.

I will get mine changed when I next visit the dealer.

I am with you on this one and frankly cannot see any reason to disable such a function.... I too tend to spend most of my time driving forward so any beeps would not put me off. My wife never moans about her car

Because it's annoying when parking and it's so easily fixed. I'm going to get the rear seat belts sorted too - if this function worked 100% I wouldn't object but it doesn't and 3 times now I've had to ask a rear seat passenger to plug in the middle belt to stop the buzzer going off.

Reverse beep never bothered me in my Gen II as it wasn't intrusive, but OMG in the Gen III it was deafening. Maybe due to a slightly higher pitch of the beep, but it had to be changed.

I think a single shrill beep is more than enough to say to the driver "Hey - you're going backwards!" :D

I took delivery of my new gen 3 prius yestarday. Before taking delivery I had requested my sales point of contact to change 2 settings which were mentioned on page 559 of the new prius manual.

1. To disable the seat belt reminder. The default setting is ON. The customized setting is Off.

2. Reverse warning buzzer. The default setting is beeps repeatedly. the customized setting is beeps once.

The manual mentions that these settings require programming settings that can be done at your toyota authorized dealer/service centre.

I was informed by sales that my requests would be passed on to the workshop and that it would be carried out if it was possible.

When I took delivery of the prius yesterday, they had done point 1, but hadn't done point 2. I was informed that they weren't able to change the setting for the reverse warning buzzer. So I just wanted to check if anybody who has taken delivery of the new prius in the UK and requested this to be done, encountered the same.

Others in the UK have had this done. I'm getting mine done soon.

Thanks. I will reconfirm this with the dealer in that case.
