Is There An Aygo Initial 1000 Mile Service?

Hi all

Just picked up my pre-registered Aygo Black on a 09 plate. I know it's nearly time for 59 number plates but got a great deal and have you seen the waiting list for an Aygo at the moment? At least 4 months in my area SE England, due to the popularity of the scrappage scheme. Actually looking forward to commuting this week, now that's new?

I'm after some newbie owner advice please? Reading through the owners manual etc I can't see that an initial 1000 mile service is required (normally just an oil change)

I'm I correct in thinking the first service is 10,000 miles or 1 year?

Many thanks

Baz ;)

That is what I've had - Checked the oil every month and was still clean so it's OK

First service is 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first

Wow fast replies, Many thanks :D

I look forward to hopefully 10,000 miles before I have to put my hand in my pocket for anything other than fuel, Oh and of course a whole £20 for car tax this time next year.

I believe the service interval is 9,000 miles (15,000 km) or 12 months. This is what is specified for my Aygo here in Ireland, so you should check.

10k miles or 12 months - whatever comes first.

The 1k mile service that some talk about is basically a levels check and to make sure nothing is amiss. They don't do an oil change or anything else - just check it over. When I picked my car up, the dealer couldn't even get the tyre pressures correct as they'd way over inflated them so there was no way I was letting that bunch of semi-trained idiots do a 1k mile check. Got email confirmation from Toyota that this 'service' wasn't required to maintain warranty or anything and wasn't recorded on any systems - it was just a courtesy check.

Hi Baz,

Welcome to the Forum! Congrats on your car. You really will love it and get to enjoy this little car as it will surprise you how agile and nippy it is.

A reason why early oil/filter changes are not recommended is that new cars come factory fill with 'special' oil that contains cutting agents that help the new engine bed-in. That seems to be conventional wisdom these days and I would the factory fill oil stay in the engine until recommended first change (10K or 12 months).

...and as you say, that £20 annual road tax is just about bearable ;)

Thanks for the advice mate, I'd never heard about the special oil before? You were also right about enjoying the little car, took her out for her first proper spin today to the local safari park (avoided the monkey enclosure ;) ) and she was great, zipping along local B roads without problem.

Also heard on the radio on the way home that fuel goes up by another 2p a litre from midnight tonight, so doubly glad I made the switch to economical motoring :-)

Usually around X-mas you will get a letter for a Free Winter Health Check! Well I did anyway :)

Mine will go to its first service today (12 months, 8500 miles). Even though I don't need to top up engine oil and it still looks clean I bought a bottle of Castrol SAE 5W-30 so they will change it for me today.. There is a Toyota 10W-40 oil in the car now.

Oh.. and the service will cost me 120 quid

My wife has just left our Aygo at the dealers. I sent her there with four litre bottle of fully synthetic 5W-30 oil.. They were not happy with that and didn't recommend it. And they wanted to fill the car with 10W-40 again. So my Mrs rang me and I had to confirm that I want 5W-30.

Toyota recomends it I don't understand why their dealer doesn't recommend it. They say 5W-30 is thin and will burn quickly
