Hi all,

I had an accident back in April where I was hit on the nearside by someone pulling out from a side road. Repairs were to the nearside rear quarter panel, nearside door and rear bumper. After a lot of waiting for the other party to admit fault my car finally went in for repairs in June (to a Peugeot repair centre). I then waited three weeks for a job which was supposed to take one week, and was told on two occasions that my car was ready to be picked up, only to find out when I got there that it was not in fact done. Not to mention the rear passenger glass not lining up, not issuing me a certificate for Supagard

I now have the car back, which I'm delighted at (I was using a Chevrolet Kalos which was horrendous), but over the past week I've noticed the car is not 100%. Is this me expecting too much after repairs or have I got a case? The faults so far, as trivial as they sound, are as follows:

1. The passenger door does not line up with the rest of the body, I've had them adjust this once but it is still noticeably out.

2. The interior trim underneath the rar window does not line up as it did and the difference is obvious from the other side. Although I could fix this myself, it should have been done properly 1st time.

3. The rear fog lights have been fitted into the new bumper but one of them rattles in its housing. I've been told they only clip in so they cannot be adjusted or go in any other way.

4. When the car is parked in the sun I can see a slight difference in colour where the door and rear quarter panel have been re-sprayed.

5. There is a scuff on the edge of the driver's door as if it has been opened against something. I am extermely careful with the car as it's the 1st new car i've owned and I know this wasn't me, but how do I prove that? There are actually two scuffs, one I have brought to their attention and their reply was that it must have been there longer than 6 months because it has some surface rust. Rust can appear within days, never mind months so I think they're trying to pull a fast one.

Overall I've been so disappointed by the level of service they have given me. I have to send the car back for a brake check this month anyway (there was 50% wear in Feb after my 10,000 mile service) so I will bring these faults up, but does anyone have any advice on how to get them to play ball? Or if you've had a similar situation, what did you do to get around it?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Sounds like you've had poor service from Peugeot, but any related experiences on this forum will almost all be with

Toyota aftercare.

I had a Suzuki Swift that went in for repair work to the passenger side rear door and rear quarter panel, which was not

done to my satisfaction. They had to remove the rear passenger door to respray it (they told me this as part of the list of

work that they had to carry out), but when I inspected the car, there was a huge scratch on the chassis where the door stay? arm fits

on. It was obvious that this had been loose and scratched the chassis when the door was removed/refitted and I went back the next day only to be told that it must have been something I had done as they had never removied the door.

I asked for the manager and produced my job sheet which clearly stated remove door & all door fittings for spraying and after a minute or two reading it over he said that they would rectify the problem and got my car booked back in.

Don't accept sub-standard work and be prepared to stand your ground. Not enough people complain to have poor work corrected and this allows

poor workers to become complaicent in their poor work practices which effects all future customers.

Well that's my opinion anyway.

To be honest I wouldn't have accepted it back had I seen the faults and if it wasn't for the courtesy car, which insurance was paying for. I'd had it for 3 weeks at £50 per day and I couldn't justify not taking my car back, seeing as it was repaired and looked ok at the time.

I do have a copy of the estimate. So i know exactly what should have been done, which included replacing the door skin and I'm pretty sure that hasn't been done, just touched up. The only problem now is that i'll be without a car. But I can deal with that for the sake of a job well done.

Thanks for the advice. I think a visit to Peugeot is needed.

Just a quick question to anyone regarding the brakes, 50% wear after 1 year/10,000 miles seems excessive. What sort of mileage is everyone else getting from their pads?

My car is 3 year old.... its on its third set of brake pads

Blimey, how many miles do you a year?

I've done 32000 and quite a few track days and am still on the first set of pads. Maybe there is an adjustment problem if the brakes are wearing quickly?

Just back from the garage and to be fair they fixed it all whilst I waited and were v. helpful this time. It was a bit dark to see the fault with the paint so next time the sun is out (almost never in Manchester) I'll take a pic as proof.

I've now established that the door fits correctly and it is the rear passenger side glass is faulty. It's bonded in and whoever had done it has put too much pressure on one side.

The trim now fits properly, it was a 10 second job but I wanted to make a point of showing them.

The only problem now: I FORGOT TO ASK FOR A BRAKE CHECK! But I think i'll take it elsewhere anyway for a different opinion.

Paul,

How does the Aygo cope on track days? Do you only take it to the small tracks or does the car punch above its weight? The most I've done is some quiet lanes and although its quick and go-cart like its nothing compared to a 1.4l Metro I had. Obviously I'd survive a crash in the 107 though!

I've done Donington, Silverstone and Brands Hatch track days and it is fine. Obviously you aren't going to outrun anything on the straights, but I overtook an RX-8 out of Copse at Silverstone and caught up an Evo 5---he wouldn't let me past on the straights which is very poor form.

It's Trax this Sunday. Several of us are going and will see if we can get track time on the GP circuit :D

Just back form my brake check. Surprisingly since my service in March they have not worn much at all, still at 50%. The car is an ex demo so I wouldn't be surprised if it was driven a bit hard in its early life and thats where the wear has come from.

The front tyres are wearing a bit though: 3mm outer, 4mm middle and 2mm inner. But the rears are the opposite and are wearing more on the outer, albeit <2mm in over 14000 miles. I'm using the standard Continental Eco's (155/65/14) and they seem to be doing ok with 100 miles motorway and 160 miles town/lane driving per week.

I quite fancy a track day but I think I best put it off until I can comfortably afford it. I'm doing my last year at uni so money is tight and I think a new set of tyres every few weekends would be pushing it. Not to mention I don't have a rev counter! But the plan is to get one soon.
