How do you clock the turbo? Is it a case of undoing the bolts and removing the circlip?

if you slacken the bolts holding the compressor housing on it should just turn. looks sweet. should be good for power :)

hey lads,

i finally finished relocating the Battery to the boot! took her for a quick spin lastnight, and unsure as to why the turbo is not spulling up that quick!?

it is currently still on its base map so i wasnt butting it, but i still would have expected the tubo to kick in a bit. what other things might be an issue?

the boost controller has not been set yet, would the external wastegate open at low pressure?

still on original fuel pump and standard cams, hoping to get them fitted this wkend.

Yeh here's another one.... Anyway clocked the turbo, easiest job i've had for a while.

DSCN0716.jpg

Your bigger cams should aid spool up but i wouldn't worry until you have everything setup for a full whack of power. Plus you have a big turbo which is always going to have more lag then you perhaps wish, bit of fiddling aswell with your cam pulleys will help it spool up better aswell, I'm no expert though aj so someone may know the answer. You got a new fuel pump?

i was unable to clock my turbo, it is too big and rubs against the nipple on the clutch cylinder!

yeh but it wasnt even regestering much boost at 4000rpm!

i am thinking of the fensport 255lph pump, what about you fawbs?

I got the walbro 255 pump

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WALBRO-255-FUEL-PUMP...=item3ef87486ee

Quite cheap these days mine cost me close to hundred quid, a lot of people usually opt for this pump but there are other options you fancy something else

Have you done that mod where you by pass the relay to the pump so it gets a full 13v or something all the time? I read one or two threads on it and some people said it made no difference at all.

Just been looking through the manual and looked up the camshaft pulley bolt torque. Now it says 51lbs/ft and with the sst 35lbs/ft, which is it? and why does it make a difference if you have the special service tool?

dunno on torque settings id go for 51lbs/ft to be on the safe side.

AJ it might be worth setting up the boost controller. there are gain settings etc that will adjust how the turbo comes in.

mine is quite laggy but certainly announces its present when woken up.

i like a bit of lag, its like foreplay

Must be 35lbs/ft i compared the two bolts and the 51lbs/ft bolts just didn't torque up, just elongated the bolt, must admit it seems pretty low.

Haven't really done much to be honest, just waiting till i get paid as i am going to get a new water pump because i am not happy with the surface on mine. Anyway going to order everything i need from tcb and that should be pretty much it, a lot of the parts are disappearing from the shelves in the garage and onto the engine which is helping with morale haha.

Just a bit concerned with dropping the engine in, when i took the head off i had to remove the studs as the inlet manifold was catching on, well i'm not sure what it is, a large round object in the bay directly in line with the steering wheel attached to the bulkhead. Going to leave the thermostat housing off as it got in the way when i angled the engine to take it out.

Also is it ok to put the ps pump on the engine before it goes in as i took it off before it came out, just a bit concerned with connecting everything up with the head and inlet manifold in the way.

not sure what it is its catching on (pic might help :) )

yeah power steering pump can go on before you fit the engine just make sure you connect the high pressure pipe banjo before you drop the engine in too far (its a real PITA to do after)

glad its coming along. its only a worry when its all back in and you have a pile of parts left

AJ give me a text when your going to be working on the car next and I might pop up, unless you want to come down, my boss at the garage is handing over all GT Four work to me now so he can concentrate on his scoobies and day to day jobs :) also, did you get a sheet for dialing in your cams? if so could i get a little loan of it? i've got a re-build about to begin with a set of cams that'll need dialed and i have nothing to do it with.

Fawbs, that is going to be one scarry car to drive once it hits the road, have you decided on management and mapper yet?

Not yet, its out of the haltech platinum or the hydra, ecu is on the back burner for the moment but the plan was to go to tracktive solutions in melton mowbray which is 10minutes down the road.

When i come back from vegas i should have all the turbo fittings and flanges minus one braided hose that im going to get my local hydraulic place to make for me. Seen a perfect adapter plate for the oil pressure and temperature sensors however its on the oil feed pipe to the turbo and not the return as i am only using a silicone hose for the return.

Parts i havent yet ordered for start up are leads, plug, ps belt and a new ignition coil which isnt needed but thought i best replace it anyway. Need a second hand knock sensor also.

I'll have the gearbox and engine together by wednesday i hope, shot the head on and set up the timing. Attach the loom and see if i can get her in.

Right just been up the garage, been stuck in all day, im not tired and i needed some air plus im on nights this week so will help with my sleep pattern. Just went up there to check what i needed to do before i put the gearbox on, basically de-coke inside the bell housing. Since i was up there i thought i would tackle the front mount.

DSCN0719.jpg

At first i just smashed the centre pin/rubber with a hammer hoping it would move but no go. I drilled the hell out of the centre and removed the majority of the rubber. It didnt come to me at first as i dont have any hacksaws in my toolkit but then i spied a hacksaw in the garage. Decided to cut the inner collar in two places so i could compress it and remove it, i wasn't expecting it to come quietly but as it happens it did. I did break one of my screwdrivers levering up the piece i cut but then i got my gash screw driver which is bent at the end and knocked it in with a hammer and the piece came up.

So yeh anyone attempting this job to use those mounts i highlighted on eBay then go for it, really easy just make sure you have a hacksaw.

gt forbes, my phone is broken at the moment so i cant txt, yeh i am just about at the stage where i need your assisatance again!, it would be sweet if you could cum up as the car is sorn at the mo! looking at some info at the moment with regards to the cams so will forward on any good info!

lads, when i went to set up my boost controller (hks evc 5) i am unsure as to what pipes go where, i have on that goes to the boost sensor, and the other two go to the wastegate, but i have a nipple above and below the diaphram, does it matter which pipe goes where?

Sorry about the lack of updates had gf problems again, my own fault really plus some other dosey wench keeps getting involved and causing trouble between us, getting to the point where i may have to kill her :hang::mad2::2guns: :censor:. Still haven;t got round to mating the two but ive got monday off so we have decided to do it then.

Ive got all my servicing stuff now minus plugs, leads and oil but i will be getting plugs on monday and probably oil too as its only 18 quid for 5L.

Does the gearbox go on with the transfer case attached? I remember taking it off it got caught on the side of the engine i think so i just pulled it off so im not 100%.

Also i know its not a great idea having grease or lubricant in the clutch case but do you lubricate the shaft the clutch release bearing slides along? Its just sticking a bit thats all when i move it back and forth with the fork.

you can use a molybdenum grease for lubeing the inputshaft splines and the release fork, you only need a smear on there though. dont forget the ball that the release fork sits on (just pulls off)

it will go in with the transfer case on, ive never removed one to get it off. you need to hook the transfer around the back of the block and then get the input shaft in the clutch. sounds easy dont it

all the best

I only put enough grease on to fill the grooves on the shaft, and I swept away any excess grease with a fibre-less cloth. It slid into the clutch with ease, once it was lined up of course which is very hard!

For the pivot/ball that Dawesy was on about, I wasn't clear as to how much a "smear" measured out as, so I just used a couple of fingertips. You'll know if it's enough because it will just glide over.

Good luck! Just prepare your fingers for the savage crushings they will encounter....

Right well just been up there, got the transfer case onto the gearbox. Within 5 minutes of trying to put it on i regretted taking it off but i managed to get it on in 20minutes. Going back down there tonight with the boyos to get the gearbox on the engine.

Make sure you triple check that everything is how it should be, like the bearing and pivot arm, just check the motions are all how they should be. You don't want to get the 'box on and find you haven't done something correctly!
