Gt4 Engine Removal

Right guys i've made the marks on the pipe so its ready to weld, got it all in my bag. Was a right pain trying to hold 3 bits of pipe together by yourself but thankfully dave came by. I know what will happen now, we will weld it and it won't fit always the case  however despite that i am quietly confident.

Right well, i got her on the road, i'm exhausted, was up there all night. I put the downpipe on lee made me, my marks weren't 100% so doesn't quite line up with exhaust still so i just ran it with the downpipe on. I just had to drive her and i'm so glad i did and that momo wheel i got is brilliant! it is so much nicer and easier than the standard wheel.

I put the ebc on 20% then i read the instructions (i'm a bloke, don't read instructions) and it on 3 as zero would be standard boost. I kept the car under or around 4k rpm. The run in the dark was actually my second run as the first one i forgot my phone and i left the rev limitter on which i forgot about and all of a sudden my bonnet lit up and a shat my pants

Still sounds tractor'esk cause the exhaust isn't hooked up still but what a tractor! Turbo is kicking in just under 4k rpm which is annoying as i have to lift off when it starts going. Very happy though, BOV is working flawlessly but that turbo return pipe is still leaking slightly even though i took it back and he nipped it up more, bit annoying.

I'm knackered but i'm really happy, just thought whats it going to be like when mapped and the boost is turned up :!Removed!:

Going to do the pipe tomorrow as i've left her in the engine bay where its warm, sick of that motor club its freezing. Seems to be idling a lot better, i think the timing may be in but i'd still rather you get the gun on it or give it a drive see what you think lee.

Really really happy though, should sound really good once exhaust is hooked up, its so loud :) From what i noted, when on the move the car water temps were in the 70's but when at a stand still they see about 88 max so far, what temp do the fans kick in?

90 deg i think for the fans, if you pull the plug off the rad sensor they should kick in just to test they are working

This is my oil return to the oil pan, filed the flange holes a bit but fits very well and isnt leaking. Got my oil return pipe replaced and this one doesn't seem to be leaking so top stuff.

Picture from under the turbo, you can see the feed pipe with the T piece where the oil pressure sensor fits in

Thank you Lee you are a legend!!!

Right just did a bit of a test, got the coolant temps up to 85deg then i let the fans run constantly, temps then dropped to 73deg.

Things i noticed and i dont know if this is cause of idling so not much pressure on the engine, the oil temperature takes quite a while to get up to temperature (take note everyone) a good 10mins or so. Also when the fans kicked in the oil temps dropped from around 73 deg to 55deg and were still dropping :o

At cold she seems to idle around 1300rpm but once nicely warmed up she idles at the standard position 750-850rpm

Made up a fan switch aswell tonight, works really well with the relay, surprised myself. Just waiting on my !Removed! wheel nuts, really ****** me off :S

wheels look sweet.

yeah oil can take upto 75% longer than coolant to get to temp. thats why having an oil temp gauge is essential on a well modded motor

nice to see some progress, soon be MOT time ;)

Well my insurance quote is 600 quid with all mods, will get that on monday then i can get my windscreen and probably book her in for the MOT next week aswell, then tax and im off :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I've got sick of waiting for these wheels nuts so ordered some from demon tweeks express delivery :| hopefully the others wont turn up so i can get my money back. They were posted 1st class on the 21st so i can't see it.

Was reading someone who ran his car in on a race track, couple of years later did a comp test and leak was almost zero below 2% i think it was and with virtually no oil usage. So after about 200miles of keeping the revs respectable i really am going to give her some hard work to do :D not going to be daft with her just going to get some good heat in those rings.

Well, to put it simply, she's cooking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got the wheels bolted on and away i went, the exhaust esp when the screamer opens is extremely loud, been driving round base, already put anohter 30 miles on her ha. Seriously its so loud haha i love it can't stop grinning :)

Temps are in the 70's when moving, oil is just below 80 when up to temps, all is looking good on the temperature side of things.

Man that's a beast of a car now! Sounds spot on too.

When the AE92 is back from the garage after the Respray I'll have to get the 4A-GE to idle properly.

Haha i've had her running a while now chris so just starting to give her some abuse but i had to do that i've honestly never her spun her before anyway she passed her mot yesterday, failed at first on upper ball joints. I changed them and what a ***** they were, never done one before and i was there trying to smash the thing out without taking the strut off but i had to in the end. Easy enough to split but getting it out was a *****, anyway i sent her back in and she passed. Getting tax next week then will go up to see lee to double check everything over esp the timing but it seems to be there or there abouts.

That turbo oil drain pipe is still leaking so going to take the sensor plate out and put the oil temp sensor on the oil feed hose, just sick of the thing leaking changed it twice. Not a bad leak but pisses me off and its right next to the exhaust.

When i go to my parents i'm going to make up a cold air box with my dad as he is an ace engineer and better at that stuff then me and going to drop the fuel tank and wire brush the top then paint it.

all in all 220miles but i changed the rings after 100 miles to cp rings and double checked everything over which looked fine. Gapped the top ring around 0.022" and the second ring around 0.024", the other rings were crap. I'll probably nip up next weekend lee if you fancy it?

Ha i still havent washed her, i have that planned for next friday as i am getting tax on thursday but having an air field to play on isnt too bad. No harriers flying, loads of straights, some good corners, i should open my own santa pod. If you need to do any power runs let me know.

Phil on the OC just had his mapped tweak since his fmic was holding his power back so he swapped it and he got 440bhp with a turbine housing of 0.63a/r. Has a similar setup to me so i'm worried what mine is going to produce with the 0.82a/r

Cheers bud, couldn't have done it without the old dog talking me through everything and welding my dp. Hows the corolla coming along?

As for the build this is the final evolution for now, once i get back back to my parents place before i head to my new base i have a spare 2 weeks, so going to make an airbox out of that corrogated alloy sheet that i have, going to fit a whiteline arb and risers off mark and then going to drop the fuel tank to wire brush the top and paint. Might have a poke around underneathe and clean the back sub frame up as its the only real bad point on the car as its got rust on it, not bad but i want to catch it before it gets real bad, may even drop the whole thing, is this hard to do? Only thing i won't be doing myself is it needs a better screamer making up and the front pipe tweaking so will be taking her to TGT at some point.

Took my mates escort mk1 out too for its first real voyage, very tappy engine but it is a push rod, was nippier than i thought.

Right well went up to see lee and i have to say it was a splendid day of driving. Great weather, good look round lee's work of art manifold and dp and james turned up unexpectidly aswell, although i didn't have a clue who he was at first i thought it was lee's friend ha. Anyway my car now has the lee dawes seal of approval, pity we couldn't have gone out for a cruise but we had some good waffling about the cars
