Types Of Oil...

This has probably been coverd many times but i have two questions.

First, Hows the 3S-GE engine like fully synth 0W30? Only i have a few 5L tubs of it spare and seems a shame to waste a really expensive oil... (its the Castrol SLX Fuel saver i think) Its very diffrent from the 10W40 semi it askes for so i dont know if its a bit to runny for it, its done a lot of miles (170k)

Also does any one know if its mixable? the car has an old 10w40 oil in it at the moment and im going to put some new oil in with the old filter just to flush it and drop it out again after 100 miles or so, Can i put in 0w30 synthetic with some 10w40 ? or is that a no no?

Cheers.

i stuck some Castrol edge 0 - 30 in a few weeks ago and i had to top up the sump after a week or so with some thicker stuff. might depend of the age/milage of the engine (mines nearing 150,000Kms) but i found it was probably a bit too runny mate.

speakin to my mechanic he said theres not much point in putting expensive oil into older cars (unless theyre high performance) as the oils werent even invented when the car was made. Ive been using Castrol high milage stuff and got some el cheapo 10-40 mineral oil for an emergency.

dont know about mixing oils, would think it shouldnt cause harm but when left alone they'll probs settle into 2 layers?

personally i'd go for the high milage stuff

not a good idea to mix oils mate . or to run an old car on synthetic .
