No Holes Parking Sensors

Hi all

New to this forum as I am just about to pick up my new RAV on Monday hopefully. I am getting a 2007 2.2 D4D TX3, but I noted that this does not come with parking sesnors. Having driven a car for the past 2 years that has sensors I have to admit that I have become lazy and I think that I am going to get some fitted.

So the question is, has anyone ever fitted parking sensors for the Rav 4 from - http://www.parkingdynamics.co.uk/.

I like the idea of not having to cut holes in the bumpers, but I am not sure if anyone has tested them before.

Anything else I should know about the Rav?

Cheers

:)

Didnt know there was an alternative to the ultrasonics which require drilling, but this seems a great idea. Just a little worried about the effectiveness when mounted near metal, but at that price, its gotta be worth a try. Would have jumped at the idea 5 hours ago, but just bought a rear view camera, which im hoping will be good enough when mated to the Sat Nav screen up front.

Haven't fitted these but I know you have to remove the bumper as the antenna is a self adhesive strip that runs along on the inside of the bumper moulding. They state that the system starts working at an 80cm range which is not much. There is a thread about them on the Lexus forum:

Hope that helps

Thanks Guys

I was not sure about these, how far away do the normal sensors work, I presume more than 80cm?

If you buy a genuine kit off Kingo it really isn't so bad to fit them. They come with really good templates and you spray them to match the paintwork.

You asked if there is anything else you need to know about the RAV. Yes there is: it is a devil to reverse! (no comments about women reversing please, chaps - I regularly reverse vans, trailers etc. without any difficulties!). I think it is something to do with the limited visibility through the small windows in the back of the RAV.

That is where those parking sensors come in. I just turn the leccy mirrors down a bit and let the sensors look after the back. Until I had this RAV I thought they were a gimmick but they were worth every penny. You can lose a small car behind the RAV let alone a low post so I will always have them on future RAV sized vehicles.

Hi

I have thought about adding after-market parking sensors to my RAV 4.2, but wondered about their pre-set distance...and the fact that my spare wheel might still hit an obstacle while the sensors think I have room to manoeuvre. Any advice would be welcome.

Jo

p.s. my RAV's nearside rear bumper section has a neat dent in it…from a time when my wife took our dogs out for a walk, and reversed into the side of another dog walker’s car - it was a Rover, funnily enough. J

I fitted a genuine Toyota kit to a 4.2 using these instructions;

http://techdoc.toyota-europe.com/legacy/To...64-X0423-00.pdf

You can get the kit at a discounted rate from Kingo and it makes a nice little project for a sunny afternoon! The 4.2 in question has a detachable towbar but it has no problems with stray warnings from the spare wheel and works the same as my 4.3 dealer fit (mistake, I should have done it myself). For painting you get little blank rings that you put in the recess on the sensor. Just flat the sensor with wet/dry and then give it a few coats with a spray paint but don't push the ring right in and take it out before the paint has fully dried or you will peel the paint off.

Forget parking sensors - get one of these DSCN2562.jpg.

When you hear the 'clang' you know you are there ;)

Fitted the sensors today from - http://www.parkingsensors.co.uk/?source=gp...CFU0B4wodQ2_Yiw

They seem ok so far, getting a few false triggers from the gravel driveway, but I can cope with that.

Also fitted the parrot hands free kit so I think I have everything done now......... bar the fog lights for another weeeknd!

There are various kits about that are not "e" marked but this seems genuine enough. We can provide you with the fitting instructions;

Hi

Well spotted folks, I did buy these fog lights in peoperation for the car coming. However these are not the correct ones for the 4.3 think they are for the 4.2. They guy who sold me them said they were the correct ones for me but unlucky for me not.

They are however genuine ones so if anyone is looking for them I am looking for about £80, they have have the wires and switches plus all the plastic fittings, they look very good actually.

Then I think they must have been for a quite rare XT2 but you may sell them to somebody with an XT3 or up who has broken a foglight as it is probably cheaper than buying a spare from Toyota.

I might be able to tell if I had a VIN no for a 4.2.2. If I think on I will get one off my mate's 4.2 but in the meantime if anyone wants to read one off a windscreen???

Thanks Hoovie.

I searched with that VIN and I can find the foglights but not the kit.
