Stuck Door Lock

I am not asking how to unlock or break into a car, although it may come to that.

I have a '98 Corolla with electric locks. The driver side rear door is locked, with the child safety lock engaged. I can not unlock it manually or with the unlock button.

I have tried using the key in both front doors, pressing the unlock button multiple times, pulling really hard on the lock tab itself. It does not seem to budge. I can't exactly remove the trim because the door is locked.

One note: when I hit the unlock button there does not seem to be a sound from inside that door (although I just may not be hearing it). But when I hit the unlock button a second time I hear a 'tack' (just like it sounds) sound whereas the other doors sound like 'chunk' (they always seem to be louder the second time you hit the unlock button).

I have a feeling I will be getting an experienced lock smith with a slim jim and then removing the trim and reconnecting something, but wondered if anyone has had any experience with this.

What confuses me is that there is a sound coming from the door (possibly a solenoid) when I hit the unlock button twice, but no movement on the lock. I really hope that the child safety lock being engaged isn't going to make my life hell.
