98 Gen 6 2nd Cam Belt Change

109,000 miles on the clock so its time for the 2nd cam and all other driver belts

eventually got it all apart and the belt off but the pin for the hydraulic tensioner doesnt move a millimeter. is there a way of freeing this up or do i need to pay up for a new one?

all the pulleys seem good, spin smoothly with no noise. is there anything else i should be replacing while i'm in there?

cheers

one other point though. has anyone noticed during this procedure that the front cam gear moves a tooth out of line once the belt is removed?

i had no running problems with the car before hand, it just wants to sit 1 tooth out. maybe its just got air compressed in one of the chambers

i'll make sure all the match markers line up on re-assembly

Also swap the water pump & thermostat while you are there.

How do you mean the tensioner pin wont move? They are quite firm, either need putting together with a g-clamp, or just buy a new one.

" maybe its just got air compressed in one of the chambers

managed to find some info for the tensioner on the 3sgte from www.celicatech.com

normal pushing wont move the tensioner pin. needs to be reset by G clamp or putting in a vice and then holding back via a chuffin strong pin lol

and yes, all plugs were removed before hand.

use an allan key of fit in the hole , youll be fine if the adjuster kicks back on removal of allan key

yes. got this all sorted. I found the correct toyota manual for the 3s-ge engine which tells you how to check the tensioner and reset everything.

cheers
