Replacement Ecu

I'm a new member with an automatic gear box problem. I think it's been posted before but I need an updated response? My 02 Rav has 4 fault codes- P0141, P0161, P1135 & P0758., diagnosed by a very helpful Auto transmission specialist in Tonbridge. Although the first 3 codes relate to the o2 and A/F sensor heater circuits the 4th is mentioned in the Toyota TSB -TC002-06 concerning the problems caused by faulty ECU (ECM) 2002-2003. He has a specific workshop manual for the Rav4 auto gear box (although not by Toyota) which lists the above codes (plus some others) as relevant to the gearbox.

It would seem the ECU needs replacement before it totally wrecks the gearbox. I know replacements can be bought and fitted without main dealer prices. Has anyone actually undertaken this replacement and, if so, was special equipment needed for programming the new ECU and coding the Keys?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the club.

We have a couple of Toyota technicians that look in and I think you probably need to ask them. You could try pm-ing Moonstone Mart and ormi.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply - I have a copy of the Toyota bulletin on my desk as I type. The box at the moment is still working correctly 95% of the time but "has it's moments". I need to change the ECU before it does terminal damage but am loathe to pay Toyota main dealer prices.
