1994 Celica Gearbox Question

I have recently bought a 1995 Celica on 56,000miles and I have noticed that the auto gearbox will not shift up into top gear (overdrive) unless the engine is warm? The overdrive works fine after a the car reaches temperature.

Is this early signs of a problem?

Hope you can help.

Sounds like its just the way Toyota programmed the ECU. A couple of years ago I had a Vauxhall Omega and when you first started that it wouldn't shift out of first gear till you went over 3500 rpm for the first time, after that it was normall. I questioned Vauxhall about it and was told it was to get the catalytic converter up to temperature more quickly.
