Is The Clutch Supposed To Be So High?

Having driven a car with a clutch travel of only a couple of centermerters for a week I looked like a complete numpty driving my Auris. Is the clutch supposed to have so much travel? It is taller than both the brake and accelerator by fair a bit.

The biting point of my clutch is about 2-3cm from the floor and the pedals travel stops level with my brake pedal.

I always believed a high biting point was a sign of a worn clutch. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
