So I creep past the space and press the button and all I get is two beeps and nothing on the screen. Doesn't matter whether I press the button once for parallel parking or twice for reverse in parking - just get two beeps. I'm not exceeding the speed it states in the manual. What am I doing wrong?

What I'm about to say is probably wrong and useless as I've got until next year for delivery.

However, though the idea was to press the button before you got to the space, drive slowly past it, car will bong, you stop... then follow instructions.

Here's a short video to show what I mean... though not sure if it applies to UK models, I'm not sure why it wouldn't.

As promised, my humble apologies, if the above turns out to be complete rubbish... just thought I'd at least have a stab at trying to help.

I thought I was doing what they did in the video. Pressing the ipa button before during or after the space doesn't seem to do anything other than the two beeps I mentioned. Will keep trying and if can't get it to work will go back to the dealers

It too me a while to get the hang of it.

You have to press the "pre-assist" button well BEFORE the space and then be within the distance and speed parameters in the manual as you pass the space.

As indicated, you have to go quite far past the space before the system tells you to stop.

Then select R, and the space should be a GREEN box, press OK and let the system do it's job.

I you do not use "pre-assist", drive past the space, select R, choose parallel parking on the bottom of the screen, make sure you have a green box in the correct place, if not adjust using the touchscreen (not easy in a hurry), press OK and off you go.

I was a bit dumb at first, set it all up but forgot to press the "OK" button !

Still can't get it working. Been trying in various places and it doesn't work. Two beeps in the manual suggests going too fast but I'm not. Question - if there is an empty car park will it work or do there have to be cars there?

Sales chap said it needed other cars, but then that might have been because he was trying to wriggle out of showing it.

All the demos I've seen on you tube, suggest other cars needed too.

Just a couple of questions...

What is the difference in the time it takes to park the car using park assist and just driver control?

With all the button pushing and cursor moving is a driver concentrating less on what is around them when using park assist than you would without it?

Hi,

It only needs other cars if you access it via the button under the steering wheel. If you select it directly via the screen once you are in reverse you can position the target without any other car present.

So far I found it useful once (as I'm still not 100% confident about the size having it for a few days) but usually it's slow to position, requires more space than you need to park "manually" (you need to be further away from the target).

Solved it. It was switched off. Put the car in reverse and then pressed the button at the top left to turn it on. It then works. Doh!

So, I've read the 80 odd pages in the manual, found a car park that was quiet enough to practice but not so quiet it didn't have any cars to park between. After a couple of hours I think I've got the hang of it, and would make the following points:

You need a perfect parking space- not too big, not too small, rectangular and aligned with the roadway.

You have to approach it at the optimal speed, and at the optimal distance from the row of cars.

You have to look well ahead, and remember to press a button well before you reach your space, in fact even before you can see if it is a suitable space.

You have to concentrate on the surrounding traffic and pedestrians, and listen for beeps, follow written instructions on the screen and press buttons.

If you do all that correctly, it will park the car in only about three times the time it would have taken to do it yourself.

I'm interested to know, is there ANYONE here who thinks this is a device that they might find helpful on a regular basis, rather than an over priced toy?

After owning the car for five weeks, I must admit I've never yet attemped to use the fully auto parking system, however I do make full use of the yellow and green guide lines to assist me when reversing into a space. I find the moving yellow lines really useful as they indicate where the car will end up as you turn the wheel.

I think the "intelligent" in the title is intended to refer to the driver . . . .

After several tries, I have concluded that I am not nearly intelligent enough to use it . . . .
