Polishing

ive been reading up on detailing world but it still confuses me slightly.

whats the diff between a 'polish' and 'compound'

could i use megs scratch x to machine polish ( remove swirls and faint scratches from my car)? is this product a compund polish?

Is g3 any good? and why is t cut so dangerous?

i understand that the process is

wash

clay

polish/compund ?same thing?

glaze

seal

wax

what pad do you use for the glaze and sealent, do you still use the machine polisher to apply these and also do you use it to apply the wax and the buff off by hand?

I cant believe how in depth it all is - ive been reading up for a while now - sinking in slowly!

i anyone could give me a quick how to and what products to use for each section that would be great!

TBH your better off asking on detailing world as there will be many professional opinions on there, the reason it maybe dangerous (cutting that is) is because i think it depends on the quality of your paint (the paint reading), cut it too much and you could do some irreversible damage.

The process i do to any car is

wash wheels & arches

Snow Foam vehicle

then clean all door shuts whilst foam is dwelling

rinse

wash using two bucket method

rinse

clay bar

wash two bucket method

rinse & dry

then polish (may need another wash)

glaze

wax or sealant

I currently use menzerna polishes and they work fantastically, i have different levels of cut. But the best thing to do is use a light cut polish on a finishing pad to see what results you get, if your not happy then step it up a bit like using a higher cut polish on a finishing pad, if that still isnt good enough step the pad up to a polishing pad. Correction work takes time, 5mins + to a small section. If your just after a good shine but dont want to get rid of swirl marks then a finsing pad with a small lvevel of cut will do the trick

Q=whats the diff between a 'polish' and 'compound A= a compound is a more abrasive and if used with a machine mop then should only be used a couple of times.

Q.could i use megs scratch x to machine polish ( remove swirls and faint scratches from my car)? A=im sorry i have never used this product before.

QIs g3 any good? A= In my opinion g3 is very good i had swirl marks and a very faded red paint i used plenty of water and a mop and tonnes of g3 and you can see the very top layer of paint come off onto the pad. dont let it get dry or it will burn the paint and leave more swirl marks. because it is abrasive it can only be used safely a few times. and a good polish can be used after to really bring out the shine.

Q.why is t cut so dangerous? A= T-cut is more abrasive than ordanary polish but not as abrasive as g3 it very slowly gets through the paint(depending on how you use it) most people make the mistake and think they should use it every time they clean there car. after a while this will do more harm than good.

Q.what pad do you use for the glaze and sealent do you still use the machine polisher to apply these and also do you use it to apply the wax and the buff off by hand? A= i personally only use the machine polisher for g3 and hand polish the rest of the time.(some products were not made to be used with a electric buffer).

Q.i anyone could give me a quick how to and what products to use for each section that would be great. A= my uncle is a herse driver (funeral car) and he only washes the car with water no shampoo ect. thats why the cars are always so shiney.

then he uses mer kinda expensive but he swears by it. and thats it. hope this helps. tj
