Buying Advice - Verso

Recommended Posts

Pretty much as the title says. I'm looking to replace my 02 Astra Hatch with a Verso - expanding family member imminent - and was looking for specific advice on what to look for with a Verso. Other than the normal mechanical checks, what do I need to look out for, and what specific questions do I need to ask?

Budget is around 7k, so I'd be looking at a higher mileage example, probably somewhere around an 04/54 plate.

Would appreciate any owners comments.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

They are pretty bullit proof... the MMT transmission is either love it or hate it.... diesels are good 2.2 a bit better than the 2.0...

All in all a good car... usual checks and get one with FSH...

Good Luck

The only longer term issues I know of are those on this forum. Things like a DMF failure on some diesels, maybe some scored brake discs, the MMT system issues (already mentioned) but that is about it. If you go for a T180 you may not get the spec sheet MPG but you are getting a more spirited engine.

I back up what has been said they are a reliable form of transport and have had no real issues with the verso !!

I would say avoid the MMT at all costs and also the headlights are not great but that just could just be me and also the paint seems a bit thin but i think that is to do with water based paints used these days

Thank you for all the replies so far, very useful. I don't think the one I've seen has MMT, but will bear your thoughts in mind.

Can I just check something - DMF = Dual Mass Flywheel right? How can I check whether there is an issue with that?

Something I've heard from other sources is that injectors are another common mode of failure on Toyota diesels. Truth or myth?

Also, for the 2.0 (which is the model I'm currently looking at, on a 54 plate), when should the cambelt be changed? This one has 80k on the clock currently.

The car is being sold by a reputable local dealer (not franchise though). Not sure whether that fills me with confidence or not though.....

Once again, thanks so far.

Yes DMF = Dual Mass Flywheel, have a search through the forum and you can read about the symptoms of failure (look in the RAV section as well as the Verso section)

In terms of the service schedule have a look in the log book this will tell you when things should be done and then you can look through the stamps and paperwork to see that they have been.

Well I finally managed to source an 05 plate 2.0D4D T3 with 42k on the clock at said local dealer, picking up next Wednesday.

I'm guessing a cambelt change is fairly imminent (60k or 5 years....)
