Warranty Direct

hi all

my extended warranty cover finishes mid oct,and as rav will be 7years old i cannot extend warranty anymore with toyota.

i have google'd a company called 'warranty direct',backed by mr quentin wilson...a farely knowlegeable and trustworthy chap as far as im aware.

they have given me a quote of monthy payments of approx £35 to cover everything mechanical & electrical on my rav,now given that i may have 'DMF' problems in the future.i think that £35 a month is worth every penny...just in case things do go horribly wrong. :crybaby:

has anybody here had any dealings with this company,as my local toyota dealership say they dont deal with them at all  ,so would have to get any work done by a approved 'vat' registered local garage instead.

above quote is because vehicle has less than 100'000 miles, and full mr t service history

The Quentin Wilson one is http://www.warrantywise.co.uk/ww.sys/keyfacts I think you have got your quote based on an hourly labour charge of £35 -there are options to increase this. I don't think many garages charge as low as £35 per hour. I think that you can take your car to any garage provided the warranty covers their charges so no reason wht Mr T couldn't do it. Ask Mr T how much he charges then see if the cost of warranty is affordable.

I've just been refused any help from Toyota GB with help on the failing DMF on my Rav4. Just under 5 years old and 44630miles on it bacause it had the "Modified DMF". Thank god I didn't have the unmodified one fitted, so I am going to try Warranty direct who I have had a policy with for 8 months.Extra care policy Which states in the policy that the flywheel is covered. £25 per month. Claim limit £7500 Max Milage 68900 Excess £50, £45 per hour max labour charge. My choice who does the repairs. Sounds too good to be true. I'll soon find out and let you know as soon as I can

Hi, we had a policy with warranty direct after buying the rav and reading about DMF issues and yes 8 months into the policy it went. They did pay out £1200 towards the total bill, we had to chip in £400 for 20% parts and added labour charge. Did have a few issues with them and the policy though.

1 the number you ring is not manned on weekends so if you breakdown tough, best to ring the sales number like we did just to register the fact we had broken down.

2 they had fitted the flywheel and done the job as it took 2 weeks for the assessor to come out and look at the flywheel and like the man from del-Monte say "yes".

3 the price they quoted the garage that they would cover and what we had to pay was £100 different to what was on the cheque. At that stage you just want the money, and it was a take it or leave it conversation.

4 its difficult to get a name there to sort it out, if you do have issues I managed to get a claims mangers e-mail at the company just ask me for it if you need it.

5 the address in the booklet to sends the mot/service paperwork etc is out of date, they moved offices and did not bother updating there customers. They may have updated the booklet by now.

So to sum up they did pay out, it was touch and go and until the cheque arrived I didn't believe they would cough up. Always tell them you have broken down and cannot drive the car. If you drive it to the garage they will not pay out, you need to be recovered/towed

I have just had mine seviced slightly ahead of time as I don't want any hiccups when they check my paper work.

I managed to get through to the claims department today and told them that the Toyota dealer had confirmed that the DMF was on the way out and I would like to make a claim for the repair.

They told me that the procedure would be for me to get the car to a garage and have them remove the gearbox so that their engineer could inspect it. Their engineer would then decide if it was faulty or not. The chap in the claims department also advised me that the engineer would measure the free play in the DMF and decide if it was bad enough to be replaced. I asked him if he knew what he was talking about and he replied 'Oh yes I used to be a mechanic in a Honda garage'.

I spoke to the service manager of a local garage who has done work for warranty direct in the past and he has asked me to let him have a listen. I need to get some money together to pay for the repair in case it all falls through, so I told him I'd call him in a week or so.

So much for peace of mind. :(

You need to get the Toyota Centre onboard and get them to tell the assessor that the dmf is U/S.

You need to get the Toyota Centre onboard and get them to tell the assessor that the dmf is U/S.

If the Toyota dealer agrees to stip it down and is willing to have Rav sitting taking up space in their workshop waiting for the engineer to inspect I would think that what Toyota have to say might have some clout. I'll have to speak to them to find out if they are willing to do that.

If I could get the number of the engineer that they use, that would help but I'm not sure if they are that helpfull. It's all about their procedures.

The companies that they recomend for repairs are the nationwide autocentres probably because of price and the mechanic I spoke to at my local one advised me to let him have a test drive in it to see what he thought. The advantages to me in using him is that he knows how they work and would strip it down for inspection and his labour rate is lower than the dealer so if the worst was to happen and Warranty direct refused to repair then he would do the DMF and clutch at under 1500 pound.

I'm half wishing that the DMF had packed in completely because they would tow the car in to the garage of my choice with no need for an inpection from the engineer and they would pay up to £40 per day towards car hire while it is being repaired.

We had this once before and the owner wrote to the warranty company and asked them to accept liability if the vehicle stopped on the fast lane of the motorway with his wife and kids onboard. They authorised the repair.

Knowing that the fault is possible to develop in this way, can you get the repair centre to give you a note to say that the dmf is definitely giving symptoms of failure?

I used them for 3 years on my shogun V6 & 2 on my RAV.

Their premium is much lower if your cover doesn't include dealer repair ( labor rate)

I never made a claim & stopped my cover as the RAV 4 is so reliable (ok I did change an O2 sensor but it still worked out cheaper than a year's premium!)

hi bonjo

yep i know rav's are so reliable, but its that 'just in case' factor, with mine approaching 85'000 miles, prob touching 100'000 by this time hext year !!

toyota's are expensive vehicles to fix,and a monthly £30 ish,seems a small price to pay a cover £££££'s of engine,clutch,dmf,driveline...etc.

will also be renewing my 'club toyota' membership shortly,£59 for full RAC for a year...very good value i think

Good enough reason for it, specially with the issues of the diesel car I read about.

Just note their premium is much lower if you do no have the option of using main Toyota dealer
