Pulling into the car park at work today, power steering groaned, then never stopped graoning even when stationary. Whenevr the engine is running the groan is continous.I think the pump has failed, my car is an 03 2L but has only covered 18k. Typically the warranty ran out 4 weeks ago - any ideas of the best way and cheapest to get this fixed?

Hi Andy

Are you sure you have hydraulic pump and not an el amplifier?

Cheers/Igor

Definately pump and rack, have just taken it to Toyota and they have confirmed the steering rack has leaked all the fluid out and needs replacing.

They want £1000+, any ideas any one? Could I get the current rack refurbished? or does anyone know where I could get a cheaper rack from?

Rack alone is quoted at £570 for a refurb item (Optiflex?)

Thanks

Andy

They are doing that rack at less than cost, so I dont know where they have got their prices from, my best price is £678

Sorry but I don't know anybody who can overhaul that particular rack

Hi,

There is a brand new one on eBay @ £139.99 including delivery for the 2003 to 2009 power steering rack link below ( not suitable if it's Electronic Power Steering).

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-AVENSIS-2003-...id=p3286.c0.m14

There is also a used power steering pump from a 2003 1.8 model (unsure if it suitable, but I assume it will be) for £30 delivered. link below

No pinions I'm afraid.

But you could try your local breakers or factors. Or there is a Euro car parts in Manchester that now cover most cars on 0161 877 8880 or http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/store/s/21/Manchester

Hope this helps,

Marama

Cheers guys, managed to get one for £180 locally after some ringing around, brings it down to something I can afford to fix now.
