Old Vs New Spec Verso

Recommended Posts

Posted

I am starting this posting to prevent another going way off topic.

An interesting discussion as to the differences between the old and new Verso was started on another thread and I wanted to clarify a few points from it.

The old spec Verso had a push button starter across the range, from T2 spec upwards, the new Verso has a key start on lower spec models.

The engine range in the UK does not include a 177hp diesel (but in Finland it seems it does).

The spec sheets for the old Verso in the UK claim different 0-60 times than those in other countries, are these just kph to kph anomalies?

So what is better and what is worse on the newer Verso?

Well depends on what model you go for !! take the T spirit

Old one had DVD player as standard the new one does not !!

Thats the only thing I can think off

On the new Verso T Spirit it has smart entry and touch button start ( touch the handle and the door unlocks ), larger alloys, automatic lights ,dual climate control ,trays on the back of the seats, more cubbyholes

I think they always leave a little out so that they can refresh the car at a later date adding the missing items

This is based on the a 56 Verso Tspirit specs may have improved on the later ones .

Would like to see folding side mirrors as standard myself !! its not even a option ??We have to be careful when comparing specs in that Europe Versos have a different spec and the range of options are greater

Edit

The T spirit has a reversing camera in the rear view mirror or on the sat nav screen in sat nav is specified and rear window shades

Agree. Something is just not quite "right".

Yes. We have the 177DCAT available but the price is pretty high. The old one was around 33 000 euros this one is over 39 000 euros on Luxury spec level (best spec, includes glass roof, xenon -headlights and 6 cd changer as standard) or around 36 000 euros on Linea Sol+ spec (the second best spec).

Do you have the rearview camera as standard on higher specs? We have that starting from the Linea sol+. The screen is integrated to the autodimming rearview mirror and is only visible when the car is put on reverse.

Very handy. The screen is small but it's very very high definition so you'll see what's behind the car just nicely.

Yes forgot to add that one !! the T spirit has a reversing camera in the rear view mirror if sat nav is specified it comes on the sat nav screen

The push-button starter on the old one is pure gimmick as far as I can tell, since you still have to have a metal key for the glove compartment and (occasionally, as on ferries) door locks. And you can't turn off the engine alone, so I can't go on listening to music when I get where I'm going without stopping and restarting. Small point but illustrates the solution-in-search-of-a-problem reasoning behind these things.

So that's a plus point for the new one, in the cheaper models at least. (And why would anyone pay extra for the button?) But a big minus is the new dashboard. The ergonomics of the old Verso are hardly top class, but at least the instruments are in front of the driver; who in their right mind wants them anywhere else? But the new one has them up on the mantelpiece, where everyone else can see them but the driver has to make a special trip. I've experienced this arrangement in a C4 Picasso, where it's horrible, and a Yaris, where it's worse; the Verso at least puts the speedometer in the same half of the car as the driver but our '08 Verso will be our last unless Toyota fixes this fundamental design error.

Peeve over. Anyone else.

I agree the button doesn't give you much, but on my old-style SR if you push the button once(without depressing the clutch) you can play the radio and if you press it again most of the electrics turn on (fan, etc). You don't have to start the engine (if that's what you meant)

Another advantage of the push button is the fact the clutch has to be down to start the car so you could leave a child watching a dvd with the engine off and they could not start the car (well not as easily as just turning a key). OK the handbrake is still a tempting button for a child but they would have to be quite strong to release it if set correctly.

The smart entry is really useful !! no fumbling in pockets for your keys :)

Also if you have the smart key with you, your children won't be able to start the car :)

The key have to be inside the car near the start button = drivers seat, for the car to start.

I have this system on my T27 Avensis and I absolutely love it.

I have to say the new TR is rubbish compared to the 56 TR like mine. My TR is the equivalent of the new T Spirit.

You can't even open the sunroof?
