Avensis Owners Manual

Just reading the owners manual to find out what pressure I should inflate the tyres to.

The sticker on the B-Piller reckons 47psi which seems a little high.

The owners manual says it should be 35psi front 34 psi rear. However thats the only pressure it shows. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but the tyre pressures for a diesel estate is going to be different than for a petrol saloon. So how can they have just one tyre pressure for all models??

I also checked the vehicle weights. this does show different weights for different engines... but not for estate and saloon.. so.. estate and saloon are both exactly the same weight then?

And not only that but they have the kerbweight down as over 2 ton... no way

Who wrote this manual? and is there any official figures available that are actually accurate. And what Psi are the tyres supposed to be for a 2009 2.0 D4D saloon?

Hi,

Go by what it says on the tyre wall.

47psi is not too high, if that is what it says on the tyre.

The tyres I use is up to 51 psi & I leave it at 49 psi in summer & 47 in the winter. When we get snow I reduce it to about 42 psi, but we get more in Aberdeen than you do in Birmingham generally.

I've never heard of diesel & petrol pressures being different? Having said that, it does not mean you are wrong.

Below is a link for the 2009 d4d 2.0 tr on the Toyota site, which does not give details on tyre pressure, but it does for every thing.

Hope this helps,

The pressures for diesel and petrol would be different due to the extra weight of the diesel engine.

And I wouldnt go by what it says on the tyre wall, as again, with different weight cars the pressure will be different.

Well I must admit, I have always went with what the tyre pressure was & never by the manufacturers rating.

Everytime I have had tyres replaced, the fitters have always inflated to the psi of the tyre.

You can correct me here, but if the pressure on the tyre indicates 51psi & for my car the manufacturer recommends 32psi, it must be under inflated to my way of thinking @ 32psi?

If you are right, how then would I find out the correct pressure if I was to change my alloys & tyres from 195/60/R16 to 225/40/R18 92Y (correct size for speedo accuracy), as I am contemplating taking them off my Alfa 156 (I know the Alfa's PCD is 5 x 98, but alloys are 5 x 100 with wobbly bolts used).

Would the pressure still be 32psi or if not, what is the equation/formula to work it out?

Thanks,

Marama

Pretty sure its 35psi all round for your car. There should be two readings on that sticker which depend on speeds and weight you are carrying.

I agree with Phil and i have always believed the psi marking on the tyre wall is the safe maximum pressure for that tyre and the recommended pressure advised by the car manufacturers handbook is the correct one to use. My car tyre pressures are set at 35psi all round from the Toyota handbook and this is unladen or fully loaded and across all speed ratings.

Regards Pete.
