Last Saturday the engine suddenly would not accelerate and the engine management light came on, something it's done before and after retarting the engine it's been running okay, only this time its been losing power on a regular basis (every 500 miles or so) any ideas on what it could be.

Hi, did you reset the ECU as recommended to you in your previous posting and if so is it still faulting. It sounds very much like the car is going into limp mode which is just to get you home or to the dealer when the ECU has logged a fault. Now here is a strange one ... my mate has a Honda Accord Diesel and he had just the same as you, then he realised that it was always soon after filling up with fuel at a local supermarket and so he had to do a reset each time. He changed to a different filling station and guess what ..... the fault never came back!! I noticed the other day that the same supermarket garage was closed and the fuel tanks where being removed so maybe some sort of contamination like water etc was present and this caused my mates problem. Do you always use the same garage for fuel, if so try changing to another well know brand like Total or Shell. Also how long is it since you had the fuel filer changed on your car.

Regards Pete.

As a taxi driver I have various outlets for fuel and i have used Asda fuel recently because it has prepay pumps which is easier to get away from when in a hurry. It was recently serviced (non Toyota) and I did ask for the fuel filter to be replaced, maybe they didn't do it. I have also read on here that there could be a problem with the EGR Valve, car done 150k

Hi again, yes you are right i forgot about the EGR valve which could give a similar fault, this can be removed and cleaned so ask your local man to do it for you as it must be due anyway before laying out your hard earned cash on a new one, it's worth a go. I believe brake cleaner is great for cleaning the crap from the EGR valve, anyone else agree?

Best of luck anyway .... Pete.

Funny you should mention Asda as that was where my mate was filling up!!!

Hi Pete the Deakin from NI here i am also a taxi driver and i have been told from an ex toyota mechanic that this is all to do with the turbo, my own car was doing the same thing and he said if i changed the turbo it would sort the problem out also he said that the turbo can be split skimmed and put back on the only thing about that is that it looses a bit of power, hope this helps.
