Avensis D4d T3-x Passenger Seat Belt Warning Light

Anybody, I've got an 05 Avensis D4D T3-X hatchback and the passenger warning light started flashing this morning even though no one was in the seat.

Got in the car first thing this morning, drivers side seat belt warning light came on as normal. Drove to the local shops about 3 miles away and got loval paper.

Got back in the car, turned the key, driver seat belt warning light came on the dashboard but also the passenger warning light flashing in the center console.

Turned the ignition off, tried again same thing. Plugged in passenger seat belt and it disappeared. switched off engine removed passenger side seat belt and tried again, same thing.

Any ideas on what may be causing this and how to cure.

I did have a reasonably heavy back pack on the passenger seat, so would this register as someone sitting in the seat hence the warning light?

Thanks.

It would have been your rucksack causing the problem! There is a switch under the centre of the seat that registers if something is on the seat, thinking its a person! Try it, start the car and push on the seat centre with your hand, the seat belt light will come on and it doesn't take that much force either. I find it a pain as i quite often just dump stuff on the passenger seat for ease, but you have to plug in the seat belt to stop the damned light.
