Ametech Engine Restore Oil Additive

Hello everyone,

I have owned a Toyota Carina II since it was made in 1991. It has now done 235,000 Miles and has no major problems. It does how ever need a new front left CV Joint and a new fan switch. Any way, It seems to not be as speedy and good acceleration as it used to have. Now I know this can be caused by low compression due to engine wear. I have recently heard of this stuff called Ametech engine restore that I found on eBay while looking for high quality oil.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMETECH-OIL-ADDITIVE...id=p3286.c0.m14

Now what I am wondering is whether any one in the Toyota owners club have ever tried this in their Toyotas and whether it worked?

Any opinion is welcome. :D

Sounds a bit like STP oil additive, which did work

I tried to get some of the above a couple of months ago, but the Car Parts shop I went to didn't have it. Maybe it is not on the market any more :(

They gave me something else, which they said was even better [naturally  ] As far as I remember it was made by Wynns, so I trusted it & put it in. It claimed to do everything your product does, too. Can't remember the price, but was under Euro15

Car seems smoother, quieter & more nippy, so it didn't do any harm :P

Mine is a 91 Corolla Executive GL 1.6 with 132k miles on the clock. See pic in signature

Nice, Thanks mate. I think I may try that some time. Although I may just give the car a nice tune up. New spark plugs new HT leads and a carb and valve tuning along with new air filter and fuel filter. I think this may be a safer option just in case. Thanks for the input though. Where do you manage to get parts for your toyota from then because I cant seem to find any where that stocks all the parts I need.

Sounds interesting.... being able to restore an engine simply by putting in a oil additive

Sorry but I think not

If it was this easy then all cars would happily clock up over well in excess of 250,000 miles. ;)

Your engine has worked and served you well but there eventually comes a time when they all give up and wear out.... a bit like my knees :(

Frankly I am of the opinion that you have to accept that your engine will never give you what it used to.... it is a geriatric engine :wheelchair:

What I would love to do is get a Toyota MR2 Engine from a car built around the same time but with a lot less miles on it and fit that into it. Do you think that would work?

Blimey.... now that sounds very interesting but as I am not that technically minded I don't have a clue if it would work.

I like your thinking though

ok thanks. I think I will have to change the engine mounts and cooling system as well but I may not be able to afford to do it yet but it is just a thought.

I had an identical 89 car which failed its NCT=MOT because of rust in the chassis [bad ]. I used a lot of bits from it, but it became an eyesore, sitting rusting out front, so sent it to the Scrappies

Since then I've been lucky. Car is running very well. I have to be careful on Motorway. See a car in front & overtake & not worth while pulling in coz there is another one coming up ahead. Next thing I find myself cruising @ 100 mph :o Points & fine :(

Kingo on this forum is excellent for obtaining parts, if you PM him

I don't entirely agree, though not being well up in the "Technicals" I'll probably be shot down

The theory is that it "Thickens" your engine oil, so it runs off the cylinder walls more slowly, thereby causing a better seal & filling, while running, any minute wear that exists.

On a similar note, a couple of weeks ago I found a small leak in my radiator. As a first cure I headed for my Parts Shop for RadWeld, which they didn't have, but gave me something similar which consisted of Cellulose & water. I followed the instructions exactly & Lo & Behold - no leak :D

I went to my Garage which I have used for umpteen years , to find out if I could trust it. They said that if it has held for 5 days, it is as good as new & just to keep a more frequent eye on the water reservoir for a while
