Additional Boot Light/s For Cowards

Despite the local hero name, I am really a coward, so having looked at Anchs excellent tutorial on additional bootlighting in Tech tips, when I saw the following photo I decide to buy a torch instead..

Now having very recently fitted a 90degree checkstrap, I decided to pickup a feed from the light on the backdoor and run it through the trunking to come out inside the removable panel, Today I have bought an LED marker light (£12) + simply connected it up, I now realise I could have connected it to the wiring that Anchs shows in his Tutorial, which is accesible thru the aforementioned removable panel, so in theory the job can be done in around 20mins without removing any interior trim + jusy drilling 2pilot holes for the screws which hold the light on + one slightly larger for the 2wires to pass thru I will post some photo's for anyone interested

I passed my wire from the backdoor thru here you shouldn't need to as there is a feed thru the access panel (see Anchs tutorial, which shows where to connect to)

Excellent LH.

With not a lot more effort you can run a wire down and under the storage unit [only held in by plastic push rivets from memory], up behind the trim on the other side and fit a second light. If you have fitted the extended check strap you might want to consider fitting a red version of the LED light to the inner edge of the rear door so that you show a red light on that side when the door is open.

Hey stewpot,

those lights are probably better option than the ones I fitted. Mine are much better than the one on the door that lights your knees up when the door is open but nowhere near as bright as yours.

Anyway honeybun, are you feeling romantic now they are fitted? I wonder of you want to go in your special bottom drawer and make good use of your "kit"!!!

I got it from a local autoelectricans in Manchester, Its actually a very impressive piece of kit is guaranteed for 5yrs + is normally used as a marker lamp on trailers it apparently can be totally submersed in water, HERE is a link to the manufacturers website in Australia although they do list a European depot + a link to stockists in this country the list price is actually £14-90 + vat but I was able to get it for £12 all in, if you def decide you want one + cant source one localy i will try to get one + post it to you Though TBH i don't know if its a stock item as it was on display.. let me know Stew

Kingo, My re-hab course is at the Woodhey House Hotel on Sat 24th oct but its at 1300 hrs + I should be released about 16-30 which is a bit early for a curry, However I am up for it anytime, anywhere just need to get Anyone else organised which last time i tried it was a total disaster + never happened

Just an update on above, I now have 2 additional lights + a switch fitted, its so bright my dog can sunbathe in the boot :D a couple of piccies to follow as a few (well 2 actually) have asked about the light i have used, using these the whole job can be done in about 1/2 an hour once you have located the right wires to connect to, no interior panels were removed + running the cable for the 2nd light N/S was simplicity itself just ease off the rubber seal for the rear door run wire along then push seal back on, about 2mins

Yes before Anchs comments i know its not quite straight :D I have since straightened it..

cable to 2nd light runs behind door seal..

If i can do it then any 3 yr old with learning difficulties should have no problem..

but as mine is a 4.2 3door,where and how would i find wiring for this please?

(i would probably mount lights into the panels that allow access to rear suspension strut mounts)

and would like light to come on automaticly when rear door is opened,if this is possible?

any ideas anybody

Nice one LH! I've always wondered whether you could fit a second roof light (dome light?) in the area over the back, but suspect it would not be very easy and you'd have to cut the headlining... oooh, it could all go so horribly wrong.

This is a really neat solution and, by Jove, I think I'll do it :D

Mine come on automaticly when you open the door, but i fitted a switch so that i can turn them off should i need the door open for long periods, simply connect twin wires with scotch locks (they are not exposed to the elements) to the 2 wires connected to the existing light, now I'm afraid my memory is not as it was can,t remember if 4.2 has a light on the back door, but i know there is one above the rear door you could pick up your feed there + run it behind the door seal to get it where you want it, alternately you could use any live feed and connect the earth side (i assume) to the contact switch which operates when the door is open But please please check this first with someone knowledgable like Anchs as i am NO electrician.. Stew.. can't believe anyone would look to me for advice but if i can be of any help i will Stew

Its virtually the same. Just piggy back the wires from the existing light and it will come on with the door switch.
