Wheel Spin

Whilst driving today in the wet weather I pulled away (turning left) from a roundabout (slightly uphill) in my 3rd Generation Surf and the back offside wheel span, I eased off the power, straightened up and accellerated again and the thing nearly spun on me. Now, it is not unusual for my Surf to loose traction at the back (no weight in it but good BF Goodrich road tyres with enough tread) if I pull away a bit smartish, but this was slightly disconcerting.

Is this a trait of the surf if it has no weight in it, or is is possibly that my shocks may not be working properly?

Thanks,

Hi AJ

As far as i'm aware this is perfectly normal for rear wheel drive, to much accelerator = too much torque at the wheels. My 2nd gen surf does it all the time in the wet and i'm on BFG's. you'll have to get used to not pushing the peddle so hard. And as you say, with little or no weight on the rear axle makes "spinning up" all the more easier.

Cheers

Paul

More a function of an open diff and accelerating with the front wheels at an angle.

Press the 4WD butting it its wet and slippy, use the centre diff, thats what it is there for!

Open diffs are pony .. use the 4wd button as you'll halve the power going to the rear tyres and the fronts will 'pull' you straight.

General Garbber AT2 tyres did the trick - better grip than those silly road tyres!
