Hi just changed my intercooler today and trust me when i say it must be the 2nd worst job to do on the mr2(heater matrix is number 1) it took me and my mate a few hours to complete I removed the a/c compressor and ive decided that it isnt going back on.

It aint all bad news i went to the local Shell and a scooby tried his luck and he got dusted this reminded me why i brought this car.

Why did you remove the the A/C comp...I assume you dropped it down out of the bay. It should just pull up and out but it does need a magic angle before it lets go. Took me about 3/4 of an hour and i had to remove the engine lift point to get it out!!!

By the way I agree with the heater matrix - absolute bi*ch of a job, which I have now done about 5 times, luckly I don't have to put the car back together once i've done it.

Matt.

  • 9 months later...

Matt,

Whats the easiest way (I know there is no real easy way) of removing the heater matrix on a mk2.

Cars going to be laid up for 6 weeks so thought I might use the time to get my heating system up to spec (constantly blows only luke warm).

Thanks

Disco... what intercooler have you fitted?

It is a royal pain in the **** that job, but you didn't need to remove the a/c compressor. I removed the engine lift bracket, and the a/c compressor wheel... and then applied the magic angle treatment!!!

Done it about 10 times now... and have got it down to a 30 minute job... as long as luck's on your side.

Intercooler upgrade does make a difference... especially when used with new hard pipes.
