Mot Fail - Abs Warning Light Not Working

Recommended Posts

Any thoughts about what might be causing the ABS light not to come on when the ignition is switched on? It's not the bulb, and I think the ABS fuse is ok - need to double-check with a multimeter when I get a chance.

Any ideas about what can be done to make the car pass the MOT? As I understand it, removal of the ABS is also an option with regard to the MOT -- to what extent do you need to remove it?

Oh, and just to check, what does the ABS light look like on Carinas?

sure your car has abs, also are you sure someone hasn't removed the bulb due to a fault?anyway if you are good with electrics you could wire it up to the oil light so it lights up and goes out with that their for passing the mot :thumbsup:

I'm pretty sure it has ABS. Basically, I'm an idiot. Strike everything I wrote above - it was the bulb. I thought I'd checked them all and not seen anything looking like an ABS warning symbol, which is why I was so puzzled. Must have missed the one that it actually was, because I went back and shined a light on the instrument cluster and could see where it was straight away. Changed the bulbs over and now it lights up and then goes away - that's what it should do, right?

Is that all they check on an MOT, or do they test the ABS as well? Actually, I can answer that myself: http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_340.htm - as long as it lights up and goes away as it should, that's all that matters. Is that what Carinas do, or are they the only car in the world where that's a fault?

 Just been back to the test centre, and the guy watched the ABS warning light up and go out, and proclaimed the car safe to use on the road for another year.:yahoo:

Only thing is, I was convinced there was no ABS because I've had to cadence brake in the past when skidding :)
