P1228 Fault Code

I'm having an intermittent problem with my Rav that's beginning to annoy me and now needs attention.

Every now and again, I go out and start the Rav from cold and it doesn't fire up properly right away. I then know that I'm going to be running on low power, almost like limp home mode, for 5 or 10 minutes until it heats up. I then need to turn the key off and start her up again until it fires into life with full power. Once it's going properly it'll go fine for days/weeks until the same problem occurs again. It can happen two or three days in a row and then nothing for three weeks. Only sometimes does the engine management light come on.

I popped into my local garage today and the fault code P1228 came up with fuel pump fault (short) on the reader. Mechanic is going to do some research and maybe call the Toyota dealer who he has a good relationship with.

Anyone came across this fault code before and managed to rectify the fault?

Rav4 D4D 4.2 with around 50k miles on a 53 plate.

Thanks for the offer Kingo but I'd break the vehicle if I tried a repair myself!

The Rav has now died and won't start at all. Called Toyato garage and it can't be picked up until Tuesday so no car for at least 4 days. Now....where's that credit card? :o

Hello There,

p1228 ( wastegate failed to open under pressure ) fault on 2004 Landcruiser 3.0 d4d

Vehicle presented with lack of power. The code was recorded on Carman scan lite. I need to find out a bit more about this fault.I have tried the actuators using the Carman scan tool, and i get test failures on all the scv vsv actuators. I get good tests on the egr and tc/te actuators. From the forum I gather that replacing the scv valves is the common course of action. I have checked voltage supply to scv valves and have 12v and good earths. I have replaced the red and green scv valves and rechecked the actuators and they still fail the test.

Is there a way of testing the scv valves out of the vehicle and what else can i check.thanks Hugh

you can test them by applying of two wires as earth (-) and (+) and both must to give a click sound confirming thir colenoidsd coils are in order + you can check with both ohmnedance -- if any difer -- this signal of one or two replacing. the primer 12V voltage feeding is OK and just to be sure prime line is in order.

Hi Igor.

Thanks for that. I checked the scv valve and they click ok. impedance was fine too. What else can I check to find out why it gives this eror code, thanks Hugh.
