Avensis 2.2 D4d Starting Problem

I have a 05' plate 2.2 D4D with 81k on the clock and it has recently started having problems starting. Symptoms are as follows: Car starts normally in the morning but after a 60 mile drive to work, needs two or three attempts to start afterwards. No warning lights on the dash and no problems whilst driving. The revs just seem to die when it reaches 800rpm when turning the key. If you rev slightly when starting then it works fine.

Battery or glow plugs or glow relay?

Any help most appreciated.

Car started running rough yesterday so have taken it in to Toyota today and it turns out that the injector seal on cylinder 2 has failed. £100+ just to connect to diagnostics and have ECU upgrade. Happy days!!!

What a mad weeks its been. My usual garage could not fix the problem as no.2 cylinder injector seal had failed and was allowing diesel into the head and they did not have the necessary tools to remove the injector.

Took the car to WRT Bradford who said they would take a look. Rang me the next morning to say that the car needed four new injectors (350+VAT EACH) and to fit these necessitated taking the head off which would be an engine out job. They promised to keep the bill below £3000.....Told them I had to think about it as a replacement engine off eBay was £1500 and the car is worth tops £4800 so had some severe thinking about either getting the work done, getting a 2nd hand engine fitted or selling it as scrap on eBay. This IS a 2005/05 82k T3X 2.2D4D which has been religiously serviced, waxed and generally looked after..

Anyway, spoke to a few mates who suggested Feather Diesel in Halifax plus my chosen service centre also recommended them, so what the hell, when you are looking at the wrong end of a £3k main dealer bill, even a pastry chef deserves a try!!

Had the car removed from WRT Bradford and taken to Halifax to the specialist who as it turns out, used to fix the injectors for WRT.

They have completed the work for £610 which includes the veh. recovery and parts which cost a total of £22!!!!

WRT fleeced me for £258 just to diagnose what was plainly obvious plus connecting of the dianostic laptop for a princely sum of £103.

Oh! I DID get a free ECU upgrade which at the time was about as useful as indicators on a submarine..

Rant over.

Feather Diesel cannot be highly recommended enough and WRT Bradford...well, draw your own conclusions.
