Rear Bumper Protection

Good Afternoon Fellow Forummerz,

Part No. PZ415-XO523-00

Just to confirm that this part fits my Rav4 (4.3) bumper to perfection and will hopefully stop stray golf bags causing expensive damage.

I know the subject has been posted elsewhere but I seem to have lost the thread, as it were. Just to recap, I don't have the spare wheel on back door (RFT's)

and therefore don't have the "under bumper number plate" style or them "reversey beep-beep" things.

£58.00 from local Mr.T in Glasgowshire a bit sore for a dod of rubberised plastic, but looks as if factory fitted. Thanks again to Parts King for original advice.

I will read again the posting re. posting photos and try to follow.......thick Scotsman here.

Regards,

Big Kev. :thumbsup::toast:

I've got one on mine Kev and it is one of the best investments I ever made. It is as tough as old boots and I like the discreet look;

Hi everyone,

I've just bought a new 10 reg Rav4 XT-R which is great but I'm going nuts trying to find A Rear Bumper Protector Plate (one that covers the bumper from front to back, rather than the 2 inch deep one that neither use nor ornament). I really don't want the film, i', sure it's pretty tough stuff but as the dealer couldn't supply the part I wanted originally, my bumper is already too badly scratched to just put a film over it.

The dealers all say that Toyota never made this part for the current model yet it's in the brochure. I don't mind even if it's an aftermarket part, as long as it's black and covers all of the top of the bumper. I've seen load's of images on 08 cars or before, what's the differences in the bumpers? I have no spare on the door and the number plate is in the bumper.

Anyone know where I can find such a part?

Thanks

Mike

Mike,

See attached foaty....is this the one you think is "neither use nor ormanent?"....so far has worked extra eemly well on McRavitty, with careless mates chucking golf bags in and out a few times with no harm. Granted it leaves a wee space, but sure beats having nothing there at all. I have never seen the one you speak of, which covers all of the bumper.

Good luck in your quest, and always remember to knock back Kingo's first 14 price offerings....after that he will cut you a deal.

That's what I have at present and my dog has the knack of finding the gap. I tried uploading a picture but for some reason it won't upload so here's a link to a picture of the part I am after.

Welcome to the club Mike

The full bumper protector is only available for cars fitted with a spare tyre, hence the reason you can't buy it for your model!

The bumper protection film is the only thing you can buy which will protect the whole bumper. Hope that's some help :)

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the club.

It's a pity that the bumper is scratched badly as the film is really tough [you can get a strip of 'Ventureshield' which is the same stuff, off e-bay or from other sources for considerably less than MrT charges - you just have to make a template to cut the shape correctly]

Will the scratches not polish out?

Have you thought of using a strip of black vinyl [signwriters use a tough version for vans etc] and trap it under the textured cover and the edge cover that you mentioned?

Not as tough as the Ventureshield but cheaper again and can be replaced easily if it gets worn.

Just thought - if you wanted to go that route I could let you have a piece big enough.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I had thought of polishing out the scratches but some of them are just to deep into the paintwork and no amount of polishing is going to get rid of them. I guess I am just annoyed that the car isn't even a month old.

A makeshift solution might work, but then if I were going to do that I'd look at getting a piece of deck plate or thick rubber matting and having it cut and shaped to the bumper. At least that would probably look slightly better.

I've seen a 2008 Rav with the part I am after fitted and the depth and profile ofthe bumper looks to be exactly the same. I don't understand the various comments I have seen in this and other posts about the full plate only being available for models with a spare wheel. I'm sure there is a difference but can someone tell me what the difference is?

Might be worth giving these folk a call to see if this would fit:

May fit

You never know......................depends on how much they know about RAVs I guess.

It's the position of the number plate

The part number you need is PZ415-X0521-00. If you look at the first page of the fitting instructions, you'll see it says "Only for bumpers with license plate. NOT compatible with bumpers without license plate"

Without getting my hands on one, it's hard to tell if you could make it fit. :)

Thanks for the info. I had found the X0521-00 part at Pentagon Toyota in Sheffield where I will be going next weekend as it happens. Hopefully they might have one in stock there that we can offer up to the vehicle.

I've found a couple of aftermarket ones with quite a bit of searching online, mostly in the US or Japan. Though these are allso for pre 2009 Rav's, the dimensions quoted match identically to the size of the bumper.

Thanks again to everyone for your input, i'll report back if I find something that might be of use to anyone else.

The bumper on Rav's with spare wheel is deeper at the top side than Rav's without spare wheel.

The radius on the outside edge also differs between the models.

Hi ,

i cut down my old protector off my spare wheel model and fitted it to my 2007 without the wheel . There is a slight overhang of a few mm but it adds to the ptotection when reversing .

Hope this helps

Must be Terminator 2, or Rambo, or similar, and now Kingo is doing films? We all know he is multi talented, but this is a revelation.

Well I get the tough reference, but wouldn't it be more like "American Pie" or "Lord of the Pies (Flies)"?

OK, it's been a while updating this as I have had another issue to contend with on the car.

For the bumper protector, I obtained a cheap protection place for an 08 model and aside from the holes used to fix to the bumper being about half an inch further back on the plate compared to the position on my Rav and the whole thing being about a quarter inch to deep, it fits perfectly. I'm pretty sure with some careful time trimming and measuring to apply the holes in the correct position, I can fit this in place under the existing plate and nobody will ever be the wiser.

Toyota could not answer the question of why they discontinued the part, and apparently it wasn't from lack of demand for it.

Now, anyone else had issues with the rear load bay door catching the bumper nearest the door hinge when it's fully open? Most Rav's i've seen have at least a quarter inch clearance under the door at the bumper when open, but mine is touching. The dealership says it cannot be adjusted.

Its hard to tell what I'm looking at with that photo and your profile doesn't give enough info to say exactly what model it is. I'm presuming a 4.3 XT-R with no spare wheel?

In that case, technically there is no adjustment but there is obviously something wrong as it didn't leave the factory like that. Either the bumber has been nudged out of shape or the door has been strained (allowed to swing open and bend the anchorage). Without seeing it there is no way I can advise how to tease something back into shape but you could try taking the strap off, putting as many washers as the threads will allow onto the fixing studs and refitting it. It will just stop the door opening quite so wide.

Sorry Chris, just found your question by mistake (so much for "sign up for replies"...seems to fail quite often.)

look at my original posting and will give you Toyota Part No., which will help Kingo in his twilight years to find on his system.
