Gen 2 New Engine!

Hi

Took my 2 year old Gen 2 in for a 60000 mile sevice on Tuseday and when I collectedit, it sounded very "tappety" under acceleration. Checked the oil and found it had been overfilled by 1cm, so went back to dealer and after a check they advised me not to drive it and gave me a loan car immediately!

Just been told today that the bores are all scored and they are fitting a new short engine!

Every one I have spoken to in Toyota has never heard of a Prius having similar problems before and it seems strange that all was fine before the service?

Has anyone got any experience of a similar problem as I am intrigued

Good news is that I still had 3000 miles of warranty left!

Wow, that is unusual. I think you'd have had a case against them even if you were out of warranty since the car was fine before the service. If you could prove it, of course!

It's difficult to remember, I think I read of one case, possibly in Halifax, Nova Scotia. If I recall, the Prius was being serviced at one of those lube & shock shops, i.e. not a Toyota dealer, and even before he had driven away from the garage there were problems with the engine although I think in that case the dash board lit up like an xmas tree. My wild guess was that the engine had started whilst the oil was being changed.

Thanks guys, it's an interesting one and the Toyota Dealer is keeping quiet about what has happened!

New engine going in today, so wonder if I will get an extended warranty on it!?
