Bad H G V Drivers Beware

I know some people see truckers as manic killers let loose on society to inflict every possible misery on all car drivers, yes there are some out there but on the whole (fortunately, or their would be death at every corner) HGV drivers are a professional bunch of men and women, I would like to see the same requirements in keeping our licences put into force for ALL drivers.

From the age of 45 I had to get a medical every five years (usually costing around £100), fail that and you loose your licence and now the latest legislation to come into force will be a CPC

The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is a legal obligation for LGV drivers from 10th September 2009. From that date all drivers with a category C, C1 and C+E licence which is used for vocational purposes, must complete 35 hours’ training at some time before 10th September 2014.

......this will be something else that needs renewing every five years but I think it will be worth it and it should also weed out the crap drivers.

what if it's not used for vocational purposes?

I hold an LGV licence but tbh I haven't used it in years although I do keep it up (including having to take & pay for a medical at 45) just in case I ever need it again ....

By the way the best thing as far as I am concerned that I ever did for my driving was take a (then) HGV course as it taught me more patience, better anticipation etc. etc. - if I had my way every driver would have to do it.
