tuning sizes tires that can be fitted on yaris TS are: 185/60/15", 195/50/15", 205/55/15", 195/45/16", 195/50/16", 205/55/16", 215/45/16", 195/45/17", 205/40/17", 205/45/17", 215/40/17", 215/35/18"; the rims are in accordance with the tires, having PCD 4/100.

the guy who owns the car says that they're 15x5.5 and 35 offset.....not sure what to believe...

ok... if the width is 5.5... that equates to 139.7mm.... thats gotta be wrong... 6.5 is 165.1mm , which seems more likely for the tyre size. ;)

Just been out to look at my 2006 Yaris standard UK steel wheels.

They're 5.5" wide, 15" diameter. 45mm offset. That's guaranteed as its stamped onto the wheel. Standard tyres on those in the UK are 185/60-15.

The earlier Mk1 model Yaris (Echo in the USA) were 38mm offset I believe.

My 16" Toyota Motorsport alloys with 205/50-16 tyres are 6" wide.

thanks alf

with a 5.5" rim you can run up to 195 safely i beleive

right now im on 15x6 mazda mx3 alloys and 205-55-15 rubber.....nice and fat!

The tyrecalc says that 205-55-15 is ok on a 5.5" wheel, but that's the absolute max and its always better not to be at the absolute extreme of a tyre size for any given wheel width....

just out of interest.... does anyone know what measurement the 5.5 is? is it inches? also what part of the rim is measured? internal or external?

the 5.5" is pretty much to the inside lip of the rim

205 tires might be a max on a 5.5" rim, but i wouldnt run it....if you drive hard theres a greater risk of folding the tire over on hard hard cornering...

Yes - the barber is right. I've just been out to measure my empty 5.5" Yaris steel wheels (awaiting Winter tyres...).

The 5.5 inches is measured between the inside lips of the rim where the tyre seals agaist.

(The inside lips are slightly taipered - the exact 5.5" wide point is about half way up the lip...)

And I fully agree with the Barber's views on staying away from a tyre that is on the limit of approved width for a wheel (either narrow or wide) because its always best to work away from the absolute limits. Gives you more of a margin for safety...

my rule of thumb is not to run a tire wider than 1"(25mm) on either side on a rim....205mm = ~8" so on a 5.5" rim thats 1.25" on either side (or about 32mm)

i currently have 205's on a 6" wheel (150mm) and that's plenty of tire. ive auto-x'd it with this setup and ive cornered hard enough to get the sidewall to rub on the ground because it bulges out the side so much....

also, now that its getting cooler, i find a 2300lb car w/ 205 wide tires (er, tyres) has very little traction....almost time for the 175 snow's to go on!

Yes - My "standard fit" SR (RS in Canada) 205-50-16 tires come on 6" wide rims - so Toyota and the Barber agree.....

The 5.5" rims carry 185 tires as standard fit in the UK which also fits in with your rule of thumb.

Off to get winter tires fitted to my steel wheels when Costco start their "20% off for four tires" offer on 2nd Nov. We don't get your Canadian snow over here, but the standard fit 205 summer tires don't look as if they will have any grip in the ice and slush of a british winter in hilly Sheffield...

4 winter tires and steel wheels for £250 is the same cost as just one insurance excess, so if it saves one bump over the next few winters, they've paid for themselves....

summer 15x6 mazda mx3 wheels 45offset and 205-55-15 Bridgestone potenza re910 tires:
