Mr2 Mk3 Cambelt

My Mr2 is currently on 90K miles and obviously ready for a cambelt change. Looking through the forums its not clear if its actually a belt or chain, can someone confirm which one it is and roughly how long a job it is for a garage. Not sure if I want the expense of this along with other items, which no doubt will start to go at this mileage, or change him for an earlier model. Whats the usual miles lifespan of these engines approximately ish. Thanks

it is indeed a timing chain and there is no set replacement period.

If it isn't noisy I wouldn't worry ;)

Here's some information

[Have I read this right? The cambelt is in fact a chain and doesn't need to be changed at any set mileage? My X reg Sept 2000 MK3 is on 65000 miles. I've been caught out before with cambelts (not on MR2) and don't wanna get caught again!

many thanks

Liz
