Clunk/noise From ?engine/front

I have this problem with my end-2007 verso petrol manual T2 VVT-i. It started a few months ago. First I used to hear the loud clunks/noise (can be heard inside with windows up or down) on first start and moving off in 1st gear (within first 10-15 meters) and then it started on every start (and moving off) and now its happening when I slow down at roundabouts or speed breakers. I have taken it to the local dealer several times (its a lease car so i don't have to worry about payments) and so far have had the breakpads and clutches replaced and that hasn't solved the problem.

Finally the workshop controller has put it down to the ABS kicking in at 8miles per hr (apparently). But my worry is why now after two years? and why so loud and annoying. They have run the car through several tests (so they claim) and can't fault the vehicle. (so why did they replace the clutch, one may wonder? ) Its so annoying and a worry and it definitely is turning heads as it is really loud now :ffs: .

I put it on this site earlier and had someone advise me that it was to do with the drive shaft and some fluid not filling in quickly enough - which I pointed out to the mechanic, but he says the verso has no such thing.

Any advise would be helpful as I was thinking of buying this car when the lease runs out next year.

If it is the self test it should happen just the once not when you slow down and move off at roundabouts !!

I suggest you try another Toyota dealer if you are able to do so

Mine does this too but I've never thought of it as a problem. Just assumed it was the brake pads moving to their correct position as you pull away. Been like this for as long as I've had the car I think (3 years). It used to happen on previous non-toyota cars too. I wouldn't be concerned.

Sounds like a broken engine mount. It happened on a Fiesta I had some years ago. When you pull away the engine literally lifts up then drops back down again.

Hi

Did you get this sorted. Mine is doing the same thing but only on first start. Thinking it might get worst in few months time.

No, the noise has progressively got worse (now clocked 24,000 miles), but the leasing company does not care and the local dealer does not have a clue as to what is causing it-I have taken it to them several times now  . I'll drive it until it brakes down and then they can take it to the scrapyard, so much for a car manufacturer that claims to produce reliable cars :ffs:

I have personally known three toyotas in my family. The first, a 1992 corolla which having clocked 400,000 kms still running now. The second, a 2001 corolla gls which crashed on the 19th day of being bought brand new after its breaks failed at the toll gates and nearly got written off and the third the corolla verso which I now have (2007), which I have had several problems. Toyotas were reliable cars years ago, but I am not sure about it now. My next car will definitely be German made.
