Many thanks for reading and hopefully someone can help. Simon

use a large socket to drift it back in. dont be tempted to put the pin back in the hub and hit the strut down onto it as you could damage the new joint.

make sure the bore where it fits in the strut is clean (use some emery cloth) and apply a thin smear of grease to the new joint, fit new clip and jobs done.

as for oil on top of the gearbox there is a fill plug (looks like a vent) remove this and add oil here. the level plug is on the front of the gearbox (24mm headed plug) add some good quality 75W90 gear oil till it just comes out the level plug hole.

put a big lump of wood under the ball joint.....rest a big socket on it to hold the ball joint and stop it from being damaged...then lower the car down a bit on the jack...the weight of the car will soon push it home....just make sure that it goes in perfectly straight...if it goes in lop sided it will just jam up and not go anywhere.

Thanks alot for the reply. Unfortunatly i did do it the hard way like you said not to, but in the end done it without causing damage luckily. But at least i know now for future.

i will check the oil level tomorrow but i doubt what spilt will have mattered as i think the front diff n gearbox oil are as 1 which holds 5.2 litres.

Thanks again for the help
