3 Or 5 Door Model?

Hello all,

I am looking at buying a Rav 4.2 petrol model, and am unable to decide whether to plump for the 3 or 5 door type. While there are just two of us we do have a large four legged friend who loves being out in the car so need some room to accommodate her. I was wondering therefore if any owner of one of these models would be kind enough to post some pictures of the boot size with the seats up for me to help with my decision.

Also can anyone tell me what kind of return I can expect with either model on a motorway run cruising between 60-70 mph. Would I be correct in assuming that the smaller 3 door model will be much more economical to run?

Many thanks for any help in helping me with my 'research' on this one!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I have a 5 door petrol automatic and get an average of 28mpg but this does include lots of short runs - also the longer runs are to towns etc so not much chance to increase the average with motorway miles.

I've never driven a 3 door but the 5 door is very versatile - on my 4.2 version I can take out the rear seats which gives lots of room.

With the rears in I would say ample room for four legged friends (low sill too so that helps).

The 3 door owners tend to love them so you will get alternative opinions.

Good luck with whatever you buy.

Hi Orbs + welcome the, 3+5dr models have identical fuel consumption they have the same engines + dragfactor, i assume the 3dr must be marginally lighter but not enuff to make a difference, The 5dr is obviously more practical although some prefer the looks of the 3dr its really a matter of personal preference I suggest a trip to your nearest dealer, who will prob have used models of each to compare..They no longer make a 3dr :crybaby: good hunting  Stew
