Fitting Side Mouldings

Hi there.

Our Rav4 has just been scraped along the side whilst sitting near a slipway. We think probably someone with a boat trailer misjudged it!

The damage is on the nearside, along the side mouldings (front and rear doors) and on to the rear wheel arch.

It looks bad, but isn't a deep gouge. In fact, it's very much on the surface.

Toyota has quoted £731.61 for parts and labour.

Does this sound reasonable?

How difficult is it to buy and fit these ourselves?

I'm actually just heading out to see what "Chips Away" can do about it.

Thanks

The stick-on Toyota ones are easy to fit, but need a minimum ambient temperature to stick. You can help them a bit

with a hairdryer. If you have a look at this thread, there is a link to fitting from the Toyota techy website -

And if your pondering wether to paint them or not have a look at this one -

Note, this is for a 4.3 Rav, you don't say what model yours is. If its a 4.2 with factory fitted ones, they are clip-on.

I believe you can also get stick-on ones for the 4.2 as well.

Thanks Dave.

We do prefer the side mouldings to be the same colour as the car.

Chipsaway have quoted £40 per panel to sand slightly, and respray.

So £120 for the side mouldings and rear door/wheel arch.

Not bad!

I think we'll go with that.

Linda

ps. It's a 5-door diesel X-TR, 55 plate
