Day Light Lamp Wiring Information Help/advice

Hi,

I have added some day running lights to my IQ and have a really obscure problem.

Now I used to be an Auto electrician and this has baffled me to the point where it must be something to do with one set of the LED lights but maybe someone lese has an idea.

Both sets of lights are wired parallel to one another (ie red to red and black to black on both)

Then a wire comes from both the black and red up to the Battery where the black goes to earth and the red goes to a relay.

I have the relay fired via an ignition source from the fuse box connecting a Battery 12v feed to the led lights.

Now for the weird part.

When the ignition is turned on both sets light up.

Start the come and one set goes out and stays out.

turn car off and turn ignition back on and both sets light up again.

start car one set goes out and so on.

Checking the set that go out there is still a 12v and earth to them when the engine is running. Break the 12v and reconnect whilst the engine is still running and they come on.

How weird is that.

Does anyone know of a 12v ignition/accessory feed that can be found under the engine bay that goes out whilst cranking the engine?

thanks

Dave

Thanks La-la

So you have yours on when you have your side lights on.

I was looking to have them on with the ignition which in theory works on one side.

I will try your method as then they can be switched on after the engines started.

Still if anyone knows of an ignition source thats not live whilst crank please let me know.

No, no, the DLR are allowed to light ONLY when the ignition is on / the car runs without other lights on.

Side lamps or beamer ON and the DaylightRunningLEDs are NOT working. EU-rules!

The cable from the sidelights "gives the signal" not to light the LEDs. Brown is "earth" and the plus comes from the yellow out of the box next to the batterie.

hmm very obscure,

they still go out when the engine starts. Yet if I have a normal bulb on the wiring as well that stays on.

Something to do with the LED Lights.

Any ideas?

My LEDs / DRL -Unit is from in-pro.de.

Again the wiring:

L = the three cables to the front pair are connected with

S= yellow cable in the box is PLUS when ignition is on

Brown ="earth" MINUS

G = sidelight PLUS

if sidelight has no PLUS and ignition PLUS is powered: the DLRs are working

if sidelight on (PLUS) and ignition PLUS are powered together: the LEDs are not working

if sidelight on (PLUS) and ignition PLUS is out: the LEDs are not working

Thanks La-la, yes I understand your wiring.

It appears to be somethig to do with these LED lights.

They work absolutly fine that is till you start the engine then one set go out.

Its very strange because the power to that set will still light a normal bulb but the leds go out.

Whats is most annoying is that I have fitted them into the grill aswell. Checked them before installing to make sure they worked, they did so I installed them.

I may have to buy another similar set if I can find some and see what happens.

These are the ones I bought:

Wow, they costs only 10% of my set.

Have you tried to use only one bar? Is this working? Than try the second set of LEDs.

What are they telling you in the diagram?

Let them send you a new set!

Good lighting

Peter

could be fun some leds around front fog lamps in place of chrome circle...

I di think about that but if they were slight offshape ( circular) I think they would look a bit od.

I Bent mine in half and held them in position whilst hot glueing them.

Do lookquite good thou, Be even nicer if I could think of a way to put a lense over the front of them.

I also thought tonight that we could put them around the inside "lamp" to get more interiror lightening...

That is a good idea as they are really bright. Aparently you can even cut them down, not that I have tried.
