Rav 4 Intermittent Power Loss

Hi, I have a RAV4 and have been getting problems with lack of power mainly from 3rd gear up but at any revs!

had it diagnosed at a local garage near work and the report was the fuel pump should be operating around 900 / 1250psi ( I think its psi ) but when the power is lacking its only doing 250psi. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced such a problem or it may be something else as a new pump is in exess of £800!!!!!!!

I've looked at a few other threads and some were talking about replacing SCV?

Can anyone advise?

Regards Paul

Oh b.t.w its a RAV4 2.0 D4D 2001 and the error code was P1228

All my info is pointing to the SCVs for that code and the symptoms are typical. It cures a high percentage but no guarantees. Kingo will post them to you at a discounted rate.

Hi Paul,

I have just taken my SCV's out and put them back in after a week and the car has returned to normal. I bought some second hand ones on E-bay and put them in for a week and the car was worse than before, permanently in limp mode. The original valves may have had some residue on them when I took them out, I am not certain, but anyway the engine is now running perfect. Perhaps you could try the same, just take them out, give them a bath in clean diesel and a blow dry and put them back in again. I would be interested to see if you had the same result.

Regards, Peter.

P.S. you need a decent 5mm. allen key and the patience of Job to do the job. Second time round it is a doddle

 My rav4 d4d 2005, is still running fine on the original scv's. I did have a blip when I towed my trailer to the skip, it started acting up again, but as soon as I unhitched the trailer the car was back to normal. Perhaps the extra loading of the trailer caused the problem?

Peter.
