Xt4 Slight Mishap!

Hi - need some help and advice please...

Managed to slightly bend my beloved 57 XT4 o/side rear door (in Mr T`s car park - it was dark!)

...Mr T very kindly lets me park there whilst I am at work

Mr T`s estimate for repair is 1000 pounds (a new door was mentioned) - is that my only option?

I have a service plan with another Mr T (complicated this isn't it!) - anyway I thought that may reduce the cost...?

Any help appreciated... :help:

Ouch!!!..................That makes it an expensive car park!

Difficult to tell if a new door is needed without either pictures or better description of damage.

It is always best to shop around for repair quotes, although it appears that you have a "special" relationship with your Mr T.

The existance of your service plan might help you to obtain some discount on the repair...........but dont hold your breath!!

Hope you get it sorted soon

Many thanks for the speedy response Red Yaris 54

Guess I will have to see what my other Mr T says - must admit it doesn't look like it needs a new door (just a slight depression along from the wheelarch).

Thanks again

When i damaged my celica 2 years ago mr T quoted cheaper than most other garages i got quotes from .

So gave mr T the job and they made a great repair .

And it was garanteed.

Just had my Previa sorted - it had dents and cataloy on a couple of panels. The specialist body shop quoted me £100 a panel to smooth out and respray...and many have remarked on what a good job the guy did. But if you want to spend £1000 (is that not quite a high % of the value of the car?) then fine.

Hi Westeron + welcome, if you could manage a photo of the damage it might help, but would have to be pretty serious to contemplate a new door, theres certainly no harm taking the car to a few independants that have a good reputation I don't always think Mr T are the best at bodywork although if it needs parts at least you know they are genuine What about Insurance? do you have protected NCB? .. I think the quality of repair is pretty much down to the guy do'ing the job more than whether he works for Mr T or not.. Stew

Many many thanks for all the advice - I only posted last night!

In answer to your points:

Photos have come out too dark to be of any use but it really doesn't look too bad - you have to look hard as the body is quite sculptured.

I do have protected no claims - but am worried that I might get hit by increased premiums next year (and I have two (albeit wonderful) RAVs to insure).

Good point wrt to %value of the car (not sure I want the answer to that one in this economic climate!)

Funny was thinking of upgrading one RAV and keeping one (warranty, MOT et al) been so pleased with them both though - any thoughts appreciated.

Once again - many thanks all!! :P

Thats a very good point about protected NCB, we all pay extra for it, but when we renew the first thing they ask is have you had any claims in the last 5yrs, they then put your premium up :( The same with points on your licence they count for 3yrs stay on for 4yrs + count on your insurance for 5yrs :o doesn't seem quite fair does it..Stew
