Parking Sensors To Quiet!

Hi,

I have recently got a Toyota Avensis 2004 2.0 TSpirit D4D. When I put it into reverse (and there is no other noise in the car) I can just about here the beep. If I start reversing, again, I can just about hear the beep - it literally is so quiet that any other noise around me and it drowns out the parking sensor noise.

Obviously I would like it louder - is there anything I can do myself or is it a take it to Mr T job?

Recently my car was in a bodyshop, the guy working on it turned my sensors off, long story but i the on/off switch was located in the boot next to spare wheel on the left hand side its a toggle switch our sensors have never been really loud until now, so i am assuming the switch may have a volume setting within the switch as i put the switch to full down position, " i am not saying this may be the solution in your case" but i guess no harm done by trying the switch in the boot.

Right well I've had a good look around and can't see any buttons. I've lifted out the spare tyre and could find nothing around it. Is there any chance you could draw me where it roughly is? I've had a good look around and can't see anything obvious but then my ability to see something obvious is horrendous.

Thanks!

I had same trouble finding it so i am aware its not easy to spot/find, my vehicle is an estate so a drawing i guess would not help. However i will try to direct you, once in the boot lift the floor up to expose the spare wheel, look on the left you will see a metal shelf resembling a tool tray on the top of the flat part of the shelf in the far corner towards the rear seats thats where i found my switch it resembles a round toggle button with a red line running on the edge if the thing is off the red line is not really visible and as the button is toggled more of the red line can be seen, thats why i am thinking it could be also a volume control as its not a simple on/off button "not tested to see if volume goes up"and when its moved the more of the red marking on the edge will be seen.

Hope this helps, no need to remove spare wheel just looked through the manual and found no referance for the switch.

nope no volume adjuster thats just a simple on/off switch matey, you'll find the problem to be were the beeper is placed(poss under some sound matting its attached to the back of the inner 1/4 trim panel)

you will need to remove the inside 1/4 trim panel(n/s) to get to the beeper but it also involves stripping most of the boot trim too.

if you dont fancy doing that it wont take a toyota garage long to do.

Bugger! Still couldn't find it so guess it may well be what Ormi suggested. I think the most sensible thing will be to let Toyota sort it when it gets serviced in January.

It may be of interest to you that on my old Verso I had the TPA 800 front and rear sensor kit fitted !! the beeps from the sensors were fine .

I purchased a new verso with protection pack (rear sensors and boot liner ) and paid for front sensors TPA 400 I believe!!

the front sensors are very quite as you approach an object and only get louder when it changes to a continuous noise .

I complained to the dealership and they moved the speaker and said it would be better unfortunately it did not make any difference at all !!! Its only the fact that I had them on my previous car or I would not have known that they were supposed to be louder

Mine, unless you listen out for it, you would never know it had sensors.

I can't beleive they would have sold it like that and no one would complain which leads me to think that there are controls for it but god knows where!

their is NO CONTROLS AT ALL!!!!!!!!! ITS A SET VOLUME!!!!! i am a tec for toyota and every kit is the same for every model i fit them all the kit consists of 4 sensors, sensor wiring, parking sensor ecu, beeper, power wires with fuse and an on off switch(on off switch optional)no volume adjustment at all but what does affect the volume is were the beeper placed ie at the back of some sound proofing right by the rear light behind the second skin etc.

go to the dealer and ask them to move it but dont go in and say can you turn the volume up on my reverse sensors or you will be faced with lots of :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: :D :D :D :D

Appreciate your comments Ormi as I'm reading this thread with interest (and some concern) as my car's having rear sensors fitted by Toyota dealer later this week.

When I take the car in should I mention to the dealer that I want to be able to hear the beeper clearly?

Where is the best location for the beeper for it to be clearly heard?

Does the fact that my car is a saloon not a hatch have any affect on the beeper fitting/location?

Thanks for any advice.

My car is a saloon - I would definately recommend speaking to them and agree the outcome - mine, are currently, next to useless.

I'll have it changed in January but I just can't believe anyone accepted a car like this.

Ok, had a rear set fitted by Toyota dealer yesterday, nice neat colour-coded set, and after very limited use (so far) they seem perfectly fine to me.

Garage chappie said that Toyota were aware that there had been a audibility problem originally, but were now repositioning the speaker to make it easier to hear.

Not cheap though, at £379.

Ack - well mine are already fitted so if it just needs moving then hopefully that won't be as expensive. I'll post back here in January when I've had it done!
