Hi,

Any recommendations & prices for 0W-20 oil please?

I found this site:

http://www.japarts.co.uk/shop/?sh=oil

which has 4l for £39.98 plus postage.

I haven't asked the local Toyota parts department yet, what sort of prices has anyone been quoted please?

I asked a local motor parts shop regarding Mobil 1, they showed me the catalogue which only showed a Mobil 1 0W - 40 oil, so I assume they don't sell it here.

I am looking for 1l to use for topping up, I understand new engines may use some oil as they bed in (but then the Prius is different in most ways and I expect oil consumption is another example!)

Regards,

John

No prius owners I know have cars with engines that use oil therefore engines do not need topping up. The only oil you will need is at a scheduled service.

Hi John,

the price and part number for a 1l bottle of 0-20 oil from a toyota dealer is as follows:

£16.58 for 1 litre

the part number is 08880-82652

just go in to your local centre and ask them for this part number, if they do not keep it on the shelf just ask them to order it in for you. should take no more than a couple of days to get.

hope this helps.

david.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't checked the oil yet (still under 1000 miles on the clock), the manaul says something about new engines using oil but guess that is some standard text Toyota add to all their manuals just to cover themselves.

Regards,

John

PS I've found this forum and Prius Chat very informative, key things I've learnt are:

- why no temparature gauge (warning light suffices and most gauges are fake)

- why no need to replace timing belt (uses a long life chain)

- what a PSD is and what it does (go check out this animation http://eahart.com/prius/psd/ if you haven't already done so!)

I guess because it would be worrying to see the temperature low or drop when stopped in traffic?
