I was driving to Grantham in convoy with some friends and when we set off I papped the horn at him. Only for it to make a faint squeek before ceasing to work completely.

You can press the whole steering wheel down and nothing will happen.

If I have stopped the engine and press it you can hear a clicking coming from the engine but no horn sound.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Note:

I delayed this topic a bit since I was rather busy. But yesterday the Aygo's lovely horn started working again.

I'm really not sure what caused it to stop, and now start again.

2 probable causes.

Unlikely......

1) there is a fault with the horn switch, the wiring or more likely, the horn's earth.

More likely......

2) Horns work in a really crude fashion.

Supplying electricity to it makes one part move

away from the other part of it. (With a coil & magnet).

When this happens, 2 contacts inside the horn part and it springs "closed" again.

This opening / closing is very quick, several hundred times a second. Thus giving the "beep" noise.

However, due to lack of use or becoming damp, the contacts sometimes

stick or corrode together.

Simple solution, is to use your horn regularly.

Just a quick beep is needed every couple of days. This will keep everything

cleaned & working inside......Hopefully.

Should sort itself out all being well.

Well the horn has stopped working again.

The only thing I can think of is that the fuse has gone?

Only got my aygo yesterday but the horn is very poor, actually sounds like a duck being strangled, if i can find out where it is located i will have a look and if need be replace it for a far suitable one....Colin

There it is! (in the red circle).

As you can see you need to remove the bumper to get to it.

It might be possible to reach it by only taking off the lower plate between the bumper

and bodywork (with the green sticker), but that will probably be more work for less access...

Well with the horn being that well hidden i will leave it well alone for now until the strangled duck finally dies

Once you know wat you're doing it's possible to remove the bumper,

replace the horn and refit the bumper in about 15 to 20 minutes :D

I agree on the strangled duck though: look whats in front of

my lefthandside wheel (to the right of the horn in the picture) :P

The hornS on my DeLorean were even worse; sounded like an

Astmatic Goat. On an exclusive sportscar that's even worse!
