Toyota Carina E 1997 Key Lost, Ecu Location

Recommended Posts

I just lost one of my three keys for the subject car. It was one of the two black ones, I also have a rather light gray one.

Notice that the car is a Norwegian car, and hence apparently have a Valeo key system, instead of Denso. I don't know what this means except that the physical key is different (and has Valeo stamped on it). The keys don't have remote control/alarm - an after-market Defa central lock and alarm system is installed instead.

1) I always thought that the single gray was the master key, the one that can make copies - but some information suggest that this gray key is actually the "valet key", the "sub key", the one that cannot be used to make copies, and that the two black ones are the masters? Is the latter correct?

2) What is the immo chip system for this car? I lean towards what I understand is called Texas 4C, but I really have no idea of how to find this out - can you based on make, model and year tell me? Or can I check it up by physically examining the ECU or something like that?

3) Where is the ECU located on this car?

4) What is the "program new key" procedure for my car?! Or, where can I find this out?

5) As I can't seem to find ANY eBay or dealextreme or whatever Valeo keys that don't also have remote control, is it plausible that I can buy a Valeo blank key "case" from eBay, and also buy a 4C key from e.g. DealExtreme (or simply the glass chip thing itself, as I've also stumbled across), and then hack the two together?

Thanks a WHOLE BUNCH if anyone care to answer me!

Bump!

In particular these two questions, and in particular-particular the last of them:

3) Where is the ECU located on this car?

4) What is the "program new key" procedure for my car?! Or, where can I find this out?

Hiya,

You are right with point 1. The black key is the master and is needed to make copies.

Hi. Sorry to re-open this old topic, but did you ever get any answers to your questions?
