I seem to be unable to keep my car mist free without running the Air Con constantly. Does anyone else have this issue or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Hi I wonder if you have it set to recirculation not fresh air

I'm pretty sure it's set to fresh air (I will double check)

I had a problem with my rear window steaming up all the time when I first got the car. There are no leaks and no standing moisture but it would still steam up really bad come morning. The a/c would clear it but it would then steam up in the morning again. After a week it has stopped despite the cold damp mornings etc. I did wonder if the batteries were to blame when new?

I had a similar problem with my 2009 1.0L TR. i took it to the dealer and was thoroughly embarrassed to be told that the solution was to run the A/C at the same time and sure enough the users manual clearly states you have to run the A/C to de-mist windows. How bizarre! It also recommends that you turn off the A/C when engine is off otherwise you may flatten the Battery. I can see this being a real inconvenience in future.

I managed to run without misting this morning by turning the temperature down from 20 degrees to Lo. I was sitting in a coat anyway so the cabin was still perfectly comfortable. I only ran the air con for a about 5 minutes and then it stayed off. It was a little misty but I could only see it in certain conditions.

In misty conditions Toyota cars seem to require the air con on to demist. My previous car the Avensis did and my current Prius does as well. Once the car has warmed up you can usually switch air con off.

It also may be worth getting the cabin filter checked out. They have a tendency to retain moisture when dirty especially after the autumn leaf-fall and the first frost of winter appears. It's not the volocity of the air but the volume of dry air being shifted that's important.:)
