Hello all,

Reasonably recently (within the last six weeks or so) I have noticed a dry sound when I press the accelerator in my Aygo. It only seems to happen at low revs and goes once the revs pick up a bit. I've checked the oil and it's fine. I have done nearly 30k miles over the past 15 months so it is due another service in the next week or two, so it may be something that will be picked up then, but I thought I'd see if anyone may have an idea of what it may be.

Any help would be very welcome!

Cheers.

Where's it coming from? What is a "dry" sound?

Sorry, that's a good point. The noise is a sort of rattle - a slightly abrasive noise as if bits of metal are rubbing together. Not quite sure how else to describe it. It sounds as if it's coming from toward the rear of the underneath of the car. I've had a bit of a look underneath and can't see anything that looks obviously damaged.

Hope that is a little more clear.

Thanks

I wonder if it is to do with the exhaust either blowing slightly or vibrating? The exhaust has various resonances so will vibrate at different rates depending on the number of revs, the 3 cylinder engine making this more apparent. For instance there is a point at about 1900 revs which resonates quite a lot.

I would have said perhaps a wheel bearing but you say it is when revving rather than turning a corner so the suspect is the exhaust for me. Can you get someone to rev it while you stick your head under the back of the car? Don't use children or old folk for this, they will run you over :D
